Commuting - What's a good bag for a computer?

Hey, this is my first post in the commuter section, though I've been commuting for a long time on a bike.

I am soon going to college and will be getting a bag for my 13" MacBook. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good waterproof bag that's under $150?

Right now I'm looking at a few including the Alchemy Goods Messenger (http://www.alchemygoods.com/messenger.html), Timbuk2 messenger, and a Duluth Pack bag (http://www.duluthpack.com/product_detail.aspx?product=Book%20Bag-Standard).

I just ordered an Arkel Commuter bag (http://www.arkel-od.com/panniers/commuter/overview.asp?fl=1&site=) today. I don't think it's completely waterproof, but there is a rain cover available for it.

i have an ogio metro (http://www.ogio.com/product.php?product=442), it's a backpack style bag. water resistant but not -proof. it's very well designed with lots of pockets for organization and it definitely makes carrying my laptop easier. tried the shoulder/messenger style bags and found them to cause aches in my shoulder and neck.

Get a good laptop sleeve and put it in any messenger bag. I have a Chrome that I like, but there's a big thread about them here where people recommend others.

It's great. It's water-resistant - the zippers are all coated to prevent leaks, and you can easily fit a rain cover on it. I like it a lot.
Edit: It doesn't show it in the picture, but it comes with a shoulder strap.

if you would rather have protection over a lightweight bag, get a pelican case. its 100 percent waterproof and virtually indestructable.

I've been using that for about a year now, and I like it a lot. Not completely waterproof, but I think the laptop's protected enough for all but an extended ride in a severe downpour. Or just wrap it in a plastic bag first, and do the same for your other stuff. Or, they have waterproof shell you can purchase to go with it.

I like the Ortlieb Office Bag, in the pannier family.

When I bought my 15" macbok pro a few weeks ago I got a really nice commuter type backpack with a supersoft built in laptop sleeve at the apple store for $100. They had some messanger bags there too but I needed more space for books and such.

My girlfriend just got the Performance TransIt Metro pannier, which she likes a lot. It's the perfect size to hold a 13-15" laptop and a couple of books and smaller things. It converts between a messenger bag and pannier by covering up the hooks with a flap so you can carry it comfortably, and includes a waterproof cover. I'm not trying to be funny here, but if you only had a "waterresistant" bag and were really worried, you could always get one of the thicker, larger ziplock (with the actual zipper) type bags to keep
it 100% dry.

If you truly want waterproof Ortleib is the only way to go. I live in a city where it rains a lot, and am completely satisfied with my Ortleib products, as is my wife. They make a full range of products from panniers to messenger bags.

spray the bag with silicone water repellent.
he places his macbook in a waterproof camping
pouch- he's had no problems in the rain.
