I've not used EggBeaters but I have heard of the advantages of
their 4-sided entry, minimal parts, mud-shedding attributes, etc.
Now they've added a platform. Still 4-sided? Dang, it looks a lot like
my Time ATACs! So what distinguishes the Candy SL from ATACs?

I think that this is a great move by Crank Bros. they looked at what some people didn't like about the eggbeater, like that you need a super stiff shoe, and that it's hard to ride unclipped, and made 2 great pedals (in theory, I haven't tried them) to take a chunk out of Time. Candy for ATAC fans, Mallots for "Z" fans. I'm a die hard eggbeater fan, and if I ever make the move to a freeride bike I know exactly what pedals I'm getting. Now if only the came down on the price...

Those look like a good idea, but I'm wondering if they eggbeater part (4 sides) revolves freely, or what? If not, they are essentially a Time....
Basically that's almost identical to the concept of the time ATACs. The only thing I dislike about the ATACs is that they can be a pain to get out of when they're new. Other than that the design is flawless.

I think that might be the same with Eggbeaters although someone correct me. I believe both ATACs and Eggbeaters require the cleats to wear in. Don't Eggbeaters also use brass cleats? I actually think it's a good thing because they essentially "evolve" (mutate/adapt) to your clicking-in/out habits. BTW, I'm quite happy with the titanium spring upgrade from Stan's No-Tubes which make entry/release of my ATACs so much smoother than with the normal springs.
I think they make a titanium spring for the ATACs too don't they?

Yep. I just mentioned that. I got mine from Stan (of Stan's No-Tubes fame).

Actually... I bought the whole pedal (carbons) from him pre-modified with the ti springs and spindles. They're quite light and the feel of the mechanism compared to stock springs is much smoother.

It is a 4 sided entry, It is a regular eggbeater inside. It freely rotates in the platform.
