Wow, that's great. Good job Salsa!
Whoooo hooooo! Congrats on doing well!! I was there this past weekend, but only as a spectator.
congrats Salsa! Is there a picture in that second post that I just can't see??
I triple (yeah, TRIPLE) flatted during the XC, with the last flat being a slow leak. Eventually I just ran out of CO2 and gave up. Finished the 3rd lap and simply didn't have any air left to go around again. Got 7th in the semi-pro short track on sunday though, which I was happy with. Do you know if we were at altitude? I kind of felt like I was back in colorado...
ZeCanon - if you click on those little "x"'s in Salsa's 2nd post, it should send you to his pics on Iplayoutside.com
I think Sugar is at @3800 or so. That hi altitude feeling was probably your lungs filling up with humidity.......

ZeCanon - way to go on your short track finish. Wow. That is a greuling race - - and what an underappreciated class. You guys rock.

Humidity????? Noooooooo,not around here.
Congrats Salsa, nice to hear that you are doing so well! Are you considering jr expert next year or going to do one more year as sport?

the peak of sugar is around 5300ft, the main ski lodge is probably closer to 4000ft
(i worked a few summers on the back side of the mountain at the summer camp over there)
mm that makes sense. Fort collins, CO (where I go to school) is at about 4500. It felt the same.
Over labor day in CO I'll be racing at Keystone, starting at 9,200 ft with a highest point of 11,700! Yikes. I need to acclimate asap :)
Salsa the jump from junior sport to junior expert is a big one, so make sure your'e ready before you make the leap. It takes a lot more dedication, time training, etc if you want to be competative. Back when I was a sport (when I was 15) I won literally every sport race I did all season. The next season I jumped into junior X and got my butt handed to me all season. I think I was like 5th from last at Mt. Snow that year. The issue for me was that I didn't know what I was getting into, I didn't up my training at all, and I wasn't prepared for the longer races. If you don't make the same mistakes I did, you should be fine though :)
Well, Ze, that's what Salsa is doing in the sport class this year - he spent 7 years as a Junior 14 & under, and kind of wanted to jump up to Jr ex, but I thought the leap was too big. Plus, he spends so much time growing - this is a good year to get used to the added 6-8 inches of height & corresponding wieght, and to learn pacing on the longer courses. I really don't want to have to wait around for 4 hours next year (I do A LOT of race timing) waiting for HIS sorry ass to drag across a finish line when a year in preparation could avoid that!
That's good that he is using this year to transition. Does he have a coach? The big realization for me was that I could no longer get away with "just riding my bike" for training, I had to actually do specific work. I do online coaching now for my team while I'm out at school, so if Salsa doesn't have any sort of plan I'd be happy to send you the basic one I give to our guys. We do power testing with everyone and split them into 3 groups then make 3 training plans tailored to their category. If Salsa is racing sport he would probably fit into our group 2. 1 is our pro/semi pros, 2 is junior x, 3 is beginner/sport. PM me if you're interested, I have to make the plans anyway so I wouldn't charge ;)
That is very generous of you! I will PM an e-mail address - THANKS!!
I was thinking of getting him coaching with Jacob Fetty for x-mas.....

That would be the best present you could ever get for him. I'm still amazed at how much Jacob was able to help my slow butt!
Congrats, but.... what happened to the Salsa frame you bought last spring?
