The last time I did Solvang Century (before this year), we had dinner with a good friend of ours, and it was at the same place as that scene in Sideways. It was great seeing that scene in the theatre.

Yeah, I figured that out. George, the film buff, got it right away, but it took me a minute. That was one of my favorite scenes.

Yeah..it would have a nice purple tone to it!:p But would be Australian then!

Hitching Post or the cafe in Los Olivos?
;) Too bad we never got the JDM Odyssey stateside . . .

They started out with it here. 95-98's were the same chassis as the JDM ones, then they split in 99 because we needed bigger ones here. Mine's a 98.

Gosh, a lot to shift through (thank you guys again!). Also, let me clarify. $25K is the absolute MAX. $20 and/or under would be ideal (I'm thrifty, okay, and cars don't matter to me in the "cool - gadget - appearance" kind of way). Therefore, and Audi is definitely not on my list! A couple of the big strong men on here ( - yes, there are times in which we women tremble in face of your menliness - and I mean that both "clean" and genuinely! :D) have offered to help me in countless ways (including getting test drives set up), so I'm going to test many of the suggestions. I have until the end of September (unless I just overdrool between now and then and purchase earlier), so why not!
Here's another pointer. Get something that's about 2years old. Still new enough you won't have issues with it, and someone else has taken the hit on depreciation.
My wife and I are pretty happy with our Mini Cooper.
my next car will be an s. hopefully they have all the jcw stuff for it by the time i'm ready to buy.
I ave several friends with Mini's - bikes fit on top (not good for me) and the cars drive nicely. Next year (or this?) they are coming out with a station wagon.
the traveller - it's just a 4 door mini.

What about $$? I want to be green and all (and no, I don't care about looking cool - I drive a Nissan Sentra for cry eye!), but is the Prius really in my price range?
new priuses sticker for $22-23K but not that they aren't selling any more with HOV stickers they are offering rebates and incentives.

I can see why...
J/K...
hahah, nice. ya, it's ok, i like ugly cars. consider i had a 80-sumthing Stanza wagon (big cube with dual sliding doors) and after that a '93 Eagle Summit wagon (one sliding door).

There are a couple of BMW / Mini test drivers in Long Beach and they sometimes hang out in the burger place next to Polly's on 2nd street. A similar mini was parked outside there some weeks ago, and the new M3 in all it's glory earlier this week.
Of all the choices I vote for the Subaru, I have 2002 WRX Wagon and it's a blast. They are coming out with a new body style for 2008 which may make 2007 and earlier cheaper.
Here's mine:

Just for the record, I love my Element. I bought the first one sold In California back in 2003 and I love it. I have taken it on a many road trip, including a trip to New Mexico. Several trips to the river, which I got a speeding ticket on the last trip. As far as bike friendly, it works awesome. Either remover or flip up one of the back seats and in goes your bike. My 61cm Lemond fits in there nicely. If something spills out of my water bottles I dont sweat it. Plus, the interior has survived my 3 year old. And let me tell you, 3 year olds are not the cleanest of creatures.
The only thing I would have to say that is negative is :
1. there is a bit of a blind spot on either side of the windshield. For some reason the angle of the windshield and the frame, block out a bit.
2. the back doors are a pain to get into in a tight parking lot.
3. road noise, mine noisy.
Positive things to say:
1. Can almost pull a u-turn on itself.
2. Handles like a sports car
3. Versatile interior.
4. decent gas mileage.
5. No hassle interior
Only thing I wished for is a bit more towing capacity. It can haul my Seadoos no problem, but the max towing on mine is 1500lbs.
