I've returned to Ultra Marathon Running!
I turn 50 tomorrow Aug 3rd. Depending on how I feel that morning I may opt to run the 10 miles into work and back as I normally do adding my total for my birthday run to 114 miles. I'll know that detail when the Lord wakes me up that morning.
I live in Corona, CA just off McKinley Ave as you will be able to see via the map link supplied in this entry. (Leaving my house about 530-6pm Friday) I'll be crossing Corona to the beginning of the Santa Ana River Trail which is a fully separate bike trail that will take me the 40 miles to the Pacific Coast at Newport and Huntington Beach area.
The trail is completely separated from the streets once I am 12 miles out from my home.
If all goes as planned to point I will meet with my wife and some friends in Seal Beach for some much needed "High Fives, Hugs and a quick refueling of fluids and energy foods and supplements about 10-11 hours later or about 4-5 AM.
From Seal Beach I'll be escorted by 3-5 of my Church buddies down the coast for 12 miles then they'll peel off and take one their strategically placed cars back to Seal Beach to fetch one of their other cars so they can head back into what ever they are to do with the rest of the their Saturday.
The sun will be up over the Eastern horizon by the time I get down the coast to Huntington and Newport Beach area and turn back inland once again.
From there I'll be solo again and settling back into a rhythm stride for stride with the Lord....
I think at about the 75 mile mark or so is when the real running will begin... The temps are supposed to rise to about a 100 on Saturday and going inland and gaining altitude will mean hotter air temps all the way.
If my 11 yr old son is still as psyched about this by the time I reach (Yorba Linda) (about 12 miles to go) Alluring Grace will drop him off on his BMX bike to "Pace Car" me on in for a well deserved landing at about 4-6 pm Saturday.
Anyone that lives in the area that would like to meet me for any part of this intimate time with God is welcomed to show up anywhere along the way on foot or bike or if you just want to give a High Five, hand up a slug of pizza, a smoothie or a bottle of water you'll have gained a deep place in my heart and hopefully a memory to begin a new friendship.
For those that this kind of involvement is not an option, I am offering the option to be able to text message me in real time to learn exactly where I am in the map supplied below. The map contains milage markers up to 91 miles. The route is actually 104 miles but I couldn't get the software to lock in the final 13 miles back to my house but you can follow the red line to know my complete return route.
The map also shows how approx. how many calories I will burn to complete the run...

(Once you have the map open on your screen you can both zoom in and and out using the icons in the upper right of the image. You can also drag the image to move across the map to follow the red route by holding down your right mouse button and moving your mouse.... Pretty cool stuff...
If you would like to be able to text me for updates along the way email me or my wife for my mobile number and when you text me always include your either your forum user name or your real name which ever you prefer so I can know who enjoyed this too.

Let us all bow our heads and contemplate those people
stuck in traffic trying to get to a gym to run on a tread mill.
Physical speaks of the invisable.... And vice versa... What's yours saying?
You can't turn back the clock. But you can wind it up again.
