My wife has a 3 week business trip coming up in mid-September giving me time for an autumn tour. I have ridden a fair amount of the northern California Coast on shorter rides. However, I haven't ridden so far north as Portland nor as late in the season. I realize that any time spent on the Oregon coast is likely to involve some rain but I was wondering if I should expect rain daily or just on the off chance?

Also, I am not wedded to the Portland - SF tour, which I can do most anytime I want. Is there some other 2-3 week tour that would be just perfect for a Sept. 15 start time?

Thanks,

Ray

I toured the Oregon coast in the last two weeks of September. I got rain 5 of the first 6 days. Two of those days were heavy rain. No rain after that as I got farther south, into northern California.

Jackson, Wyoming to Southern Utah - ending in Cedar City or St. George.
Perfect weather -
Fly in and out of Salt Lake City - puddle jumper to start and from finish.

I'll be touring the Oregon section the second week of September. September has the lowest amount of rainfall of all the months on the Oregon coast. It's a great month to go. There may be some rain, but it's not a guarantee.

I don't know about oregon, but around here september is one of the nicest months of the year weather wise, sept.-oct. is the real summer.

I toured the Oregon & northern Califorinia coast last September. It rained briefly one morning. That being said, I am making the same ride starting this September and am taking all of my pannier covers & full rain gear!
