Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Is there a name for this style of riding?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I used to like it a lot but I'm over it now. I'd rather watch BMX. I say that without disrespect. All these cats from Cadence, MASH, etc. are very talented.
I have a bmx bike for **** like that the skinny tire bikes are for making the fastness
I like what your doing really I do

The riding skills are IMPRESSIVE.
The rear wheel 180 and 360 landing to the rear and riding it out was nice.
I have to say however, I am non plussed by the 80's/emo fashion that permeates the group............
the abandoned shopko parking lot was a nice touch however.

The judges would have also accepted "BMX Freestyle".

Oooh, sorry. You forgot to phrase your answer in the form of a question.
Boring?
While I don't deny their riding abilities and skill, i'd much rather watch BMX street stuff.

Considering flatland/freestyle BMX is really just BMX racing bikes taken to the street for tricks, I don't see anything wrong with taking track racing bikes to the street for tricks. All in good fun.

small if you go to the mash website you will see some bike pictures looks like 45 19 on some of em

you couldn't be more wrong freestyle bmx bikes are totally different from race bike race bikes are super light and fast freestyle bikes are heavier with some serious frame gusseting thicker axles usually 14mm the frames even have different geometry

He is talking about the origins of freestyle bmx.. which was bmx bikes straight from the track back in the day.

Nothing against these riders and I don't know them at all. But, I would guess that doing these same tricks on a BMX bike they would be called lame. Any 14 year old can do that stuff. But, for some reason if you do it on a fixie you got "mad bike skillzzzzzz".

The track bike is extremely limited in the number of tricks one can do. If people keep want to keep doing trick riding on their track bikes, the bike is going to have to evolve to a point where it's essentially no longer a track bike at all.
But I suspect the trend will die before that happens. I feel what you're witnessing is the rollerblading of the aughts.
Prove me wrong, and show me some cool **** you can do on a track bike that you'd never pull off on a BMX. I'm not talking about backwards circles or leg-over-bar skids, but something big and ballsy.

It's all fun and games until someone loses a head tube. That's a tall tumble to take.
yeah I heard that I had an old beater hmm what was it cant remember break up on landing and fall to pieces
you are all a bunch of ****ing haters. take a break from being a bitter ****** bag and google the word fun.
My man lyledriver calls it 700CMX. Yes it's not the best choice to do freestyle BMX on a track bike but lots of fun in cycling comes from making do with a sub optimal setup. I have lots of fun riding my 700*28 road bike on trails for example. Passing mountain bikers on the climbs is pretty sweet. But I mean this subforum is all about making do with less bike than you'd have in the best case scenario, right?

yea what is up with supertight pants? i'm not judging or making any assumptions but I just want to know is it a claim or style? Is it comfy or even good for down below (since its bad for women not getting any air down there(like yeast infections), its def gotta be bad for a dude too, right?)? Not knocking it just curious? I may even give it a try one day just to try and get an understanding of it and keep myself from being an outsider to it (similar to how some folks think its crazy to ride a bike that doesn't allow you to stop pedaling)

yea its def cool looking at BMX style tricks on a fixed but it can't be good to the frame with long term usage. i'd say its prob best and safe to keep all wheels on the ground when doing tricks on a fixed, no in the air business if you want your bike to last a long time
* also seems there def is a limited # of tricks to be done on a fixed which will sooner or later just be boring to watch after a while (Carnival). Gimme some helmet-cam riding footage riding the waves of traffic and that's where its at for me.

hotdoggin' or dorkin'?
Word to traffic footage. Rippin' up traffic is more interesting than boosting off a bank to me.

o yea i agree its def fun (most i could do is a simple bunnyhop and that thing where you lift the front wheel while seated in a no handed track stand, trying to get down a wheelie but to no success) but i favor riding more

Orange bike (Bean) rides around 75 inches, Tom on the rush hour is a bit lower.
Tom's wheels are bulletproof: Pauls laced 36 spokes to deep v's, still straight as an arrow.
Any other q's about their setups I have answers.
P.S. Don't front on ladypants. Much better than baggy shorts that catch on your saddle and handlebars doing that sort of ****, also no bunching.

i think rider weight could play a role in it too right?
i think i want to def try out lady pants now just to see what your talking about (what size would I be if ? wear a 34 in men?). the whole aspect of bunching not being a problem can be a perk but what about air space that's my ?

Yeah it's right down Baltimore pike from me.
@Gyeswho: Some places do girls jeans in inch sizes and there are also tight jeans for guys by Lip Service and Dogpile aimed at the punk rock crowd (I.E. Coming in Black and White primarily). It's really all trial and error for sizing and takes some adjustment and getting used to once you've found the right size. Boxer briefs are also a good investment if you decide to take the plunge.

do you have any idea what you're talking about? why do you care? better question- what does it matter?
edit: and there's plenty of room to breathe if you buy MENS skinny pants. try it, you might like it, and lose a self righteous perspective on other subcultures in society. basically all gain
(sorry im just real sick of the 'tight pants lolz u r a faggorsz' mentality that can arise from similar talk)

Uniqlo in NYC (theres on on Broadway around spring st ish) does a decent cheap skinny jean. Look for your waist size in "slim fit", mine are like 1% spanded 99% cotton. I haven't been wearing em lately, but it's been f-ing hot out.

If they ride with risers there isn't really any point to using a fixed-gear track bicycle over a BMX bike.
They should do drop-bar specific tricks! Wee!
