Tomorrow, I join the 50+! I got my AARP invite yesterday. I can’t wait for Saturday when I shread it as I toast myself for my second chance of life.

Last year, the thought of pushing 50, was depressing and scary. I was miserable, out of shape. I was not taking care of my body. Everyday was a struggle

In February I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease. With the diagnosis came the determination to my get life back. I knew that it was something I would live with for the rest of my life, but I also realized I had to return to a healthy lifestyle.

In March, I pulled the bike out and started riding after a seven year layoff. I started eating healthier. The pounds have actually come off quicker than I expected. As of this date, I have lost 43 pounds, and I have to say, I have never felt better.

My life is back in order. I’m going to have to deal with Crohn’s for the rest of my life. But, the good days…they are every day. No longer are there bad days, just an occasional bad moments. My outlook on life has changed. I actually enjoy going to work.

Now, I am looking forward to my 50th. I feel I have been given a second chance of life and I have no intentions to blow it this time around. A new phase has just now started. Not just cycling, it’s life in general. I'm not getting older..I'm getting better.

I beg to differ. 0-9 does not ten years make. The OPis now into his fifth decade. When the OP completes it the OP will have completed all the years in the decade and move on into the sixth decade.

Glad to have you aboard, even though it is a day early. Young people, so impatient you are!

My best friend and a godchild have Crohn's, not the easiest thing to deal with but sounds like you got things under control. Continued good luck and long life!

If you turn 50 tomorrow, and can still get dressed and go to the bathroom by yourself, then you're in pretty good shape. Or, am I assuming too much?
Happy BD.

Wow! Congrats!

Be sure you stay well hydrated, plenty of water and all that stuff. That's one of the biggest issues for IBD patients.

How do you figure? You're born at zero years of age... When you reach your first birthday, you have COMPLETED one year of life. 0-9 is your first 10 years. At 50 you have complete 5 decades.

And here I thought we'd finally settled the argument about when the millennium began. Sigh!

Wow!!! Congratulations, Happy Birthday, and a HIGH FIVE to you for choosing to make positive changes to turn your life around. Your story is very encouraging and inspirational. You have a lot to celebrate on your birthday tomorrow. My 50th was last year, and it was a turning point in my life as well.

50 years = 5 decades. The day after one's 50th birthday is the start of the 6th decade.

But who's counting?

0 to the end of 9 makes ten years.

Here, I'll reword it a bit:

0 through 9 - 1st decade
10 through 19 - 2nd decade
20 through 29 - 3rd decade
30-39 through 4th decade
40-49 through 5th decade
50 through 59 - 6th decade.

I turned 50 in January, and I still have not received my AARP stuff! Where is it? I want my discounts!

As I've mentioned before, what I like about this is:

Cops in their 20's calling me "sir".

I can walk all over Best Buy, and the blue shirts leave me alone, which is the way I like it.

Well, it's all downhill from here. Except the parts that are uphill. Wait. I read that somewhere before. Anyway, Happy Birthday and welcome aboard.

I had thought about shredding it, but when I see the discounts I can get, its a no brainer.

Today was a great day, and its not over yet

I came in from my ride to find a dining room table covered with gifts, and I think its all cycling swag :) Sweet!

2007 Fuji Roubiax Pro

I've had this bike for four weeks, and have put just over 1000 miles on it. I know I will alway get ribbing for buying it at Performance. Like the jerk on an Orbea who I caught with last weekend. Seemed to think highly of it until he asked where I bought it. He said he didnt know of any Fuji dealers. Short story, he tried to drop me, but I smoked his tail at the count line sign.

But, I have been very pleased with this bike. Ultregra and 105 for 1000 bucks. My only complaint is the wheels, and I didnt even think about riding on the stock saddle, replacing it with a Fizik Arione.

So Far, searching has turned up 3 companies making bicycles with the name Roubaix. Specialized, Fuji and Claud Butler. Not all of them come in white.

Congrat's on taking that first step. Half the battle is already won! I don't have much for you on cycling but make usre you get the AARP membership! I'm 57 and my wife and I generally save about $200 per year on discounts. its a great membership to have and comes with a great rag to read every month as we grow older.
