So I inherited a black carbon fork from TimArchy before he flew off to Thailand and I'm planning on rattlecanning it purple ASAP to put on my bike. I know that I shouldn't sand it, but is acetone too harsh for the carbon? Any suggestions on how to get paint to stick?

I know it seems ridiculous to paint a carbon fork, but it was free and if I don't paint it then I'm not going to use it and that's more ridiculous than painting it.

Purple frame and a black fork go together much better than, after a week of riding, a scratched, mismatched hack rustoleum purple job (with black showing through) and a purple frame.

I think my rattlecan turned out ok: http://velospace.org/files/purplebike1.jpg ;) I don't have much to lose with an additional piece rattlecanned.

Thanks for the link to the road post. I always assumed that I couldn't sand carbon...but he definitely did. I'll be postin' pics when I'm done with this puppy. Time to lose the steel fork and the extra weight. :)

sanding a carbon fork is just sanding clearcoat... it's ok :)

You wouldn't want to sand the resin though. Don't rub too hard.
