I usually just unclip one foot at a time, grab my foot with my hand and stretch out my quads. If you pull back far enough I imagine it'll help stretch the hip flexors a bit.

My $.02

+1 You can still pedal too. It helps with stability if your bar-hand is on the bar tops, near the stem.

You can do this kneeling, on your side or on your back. If you're feeling your lower back in there, I recommend getting on your back. For me at least, I can feel out that lower back/hip flexor nexus a little more safely and solidly this way, allowing me a fuller stretch.

Do some Yoga and go get a proper fit on your bike. If your hip flexors are tight, your fit is off somewhere...

Not necessarily true. Almost everyone feels it in the hip flexors when they get bars and are adjusting to the new position.

The OP never said anything about a new position or bars. If he's in the same position and his hip flexors get tight, his position is off. Even a small adjustment could cure the issue. I train on three different bike and NEVER get hip flexor stiffness/soreness...

I like stretching my hip flexors on the bike. I just stand, hands on hoods and push my hips forward as much as I can...feels pretty good.

Anyone think you're getting obscene with your stem? :)

Biking shouldn't bother your hip flexors too much, a good pre stretch session does it for me. Google "psoas stretches" or "iliopsoas stretches" because that is the hip flexor that connects to the lower back.

unless of course they have pain, like I do. It's not good to generalize about cyclists and pain as everyones body is different. As I understand it, the hips are something to look at when you position is really extreme. See: saddle to stem drop of 8". It places your hips at an extreme angle, and my personal experience as it can cause some pain. That or my pedal float. I'm struggling with 7 months of hip pain on my left hip
