Mountain Biking - my first endo!! >=)

hehe i feel like i've grown up or something...



anyway i was coming along down some singletrack at ~16mph, and at the end it drops off sharpely and to the left into some VERY rocky doubletrack type stuff, right into a stream.


it had just rained today, so everything was very slippery and some errosion had occured making the rocks bigger than usual


so i fly down around the corner as i usually do, took the drop in stride, but instead of tracking over a the rocks rocks like i'm usually able to do, my back tire slipped, throwing my line off. i tried to correct but wound up slamming into a large sharp rock. as i felt myself loosing it i unclipped and braced for impact.


*SHA-BAM*

i landed on my right shin and knee and left arm.. i managed to save my left leg. i got a nice gouge down my shin and a small hole poked in the skin over my kneecap, nothing serious. My bike was safely thrown off into the grassy riverbank.


i'm glad i landed in the stream.. it was refreshing >=)


so i stopped by my highschool to refresh myself at a water fountain around the corner from where my bike was parked, and some seniors had been running and actually started mocking me for wearing a helmet as i filled up my water bottles.

they walk around the corner and i hear them go "HOLY ****!" in response to my bike.. which was covered in mud and a little blood... so i walk around with my bleeding leg and they relized why i wear my helmet >=)


annnnyway i'm just rambling as an effect of my after-ride high.


hehe this bike is totally worth all the wasted summer days i spent working >=)

Sounds like u landed nicely. Good thing u're not hurt! I never knew seniors would actually same something like that...

Another 15 miles? Damn, I guess i'm really out of shape. I just got my bike yesterday and did a 7 mile ride today and I'm ready for a nap lol
I envy you people who can ride forever. I guess I need to work on getting in shape. Thats why I bought the bike in the first place :)

And yes, I did get it dirty today. Just like a moutainbike should be :D
There isn't a helmet law here for people over 16 so I don't have to have one but I think I'm going to get one in a few weeks. I was wearing one when I test rode my bike and it seems to keep my head a lot cooler. It keeps sweat out of my eyes too, a problem I had today which was really bugging me.

how heavy are they? are they cool to wear? breathable?

pads help if you crash a lot, or if your doing some more hardcore stuff but they are not as cool. but if you do need them they help a lot.

jas, they are not heavy at all. When Im riding I dont even feel em. You can buy them at jenson/pricepoint for like 10 bucks. Very breathable. They only thing I dont like about them is that there is no strap behind the knee pad. Its okay because it sstays in place just fine. Theyll make you look more hardcore and c00l :D

cliche, poorly written lyrics... poorly written songs... lack of talent amongst the band members...

Thats rubbish, Staind are good. Not as good as Thrice though.. heh

Congrats on your endo, sounds like a good fall. Lucky you didnt hurt your bike, or yourself seriously. Good to hear you were wearing a helmet.

Yeah make sure you have shinnies! I was just mucking around in the front yard and as i was getting of one pedal cliped my leg and it span and hit my other shin. I had to have my shin glued and ill post a pick of my shin like 6 weeks later from the acident lol. these are the shinnes i use:

teres nothing there, you should see mine from my dirtbike, there was af ricken whole, its not compltely healed yet, its still scabbed.

Thats just a scratch.. mate i tore a hole in my shin where you could see 6 inches of pure white bone :) That was a work of art

lol looks painfull, i cant imagine how bad it would look 6 weeks back right wen you fell, and i also hate how ppl start mocking you for wearing a helmet, personaly i love my helmet :D i have hit a big pole going bout 15 mph lol, i was to busy talking to a friend and the next day i managed to hit a big tree that colapsed on the trails by me :D (on the head to :P)

I don't like helmets, probably cuz I haven't worn one in so long, but you have to now, its a law, if you get caught its 30 bucks.

I highly recommend you get a helmet. Although not a kid anymore, I always wear mine, even when just cruising around the neighborhood.

The more you ride, the faster you'll go, the harder you'll fall. Plus, there are some spills that happen before you realize. I've had my share of, "whoa, what just happened?" as I'm picking myself off the forest floor.

Plus, when riding through some dense trails, you can deflect branches with your helmet.

I've had too many crashes where my helmet has taken a pretty good hit. That brings me to another point. A bicycle helmet is designed to do one thing. Absorb an impact. The problem is, it does so in a sacrificial manner. By absorbing a hit, it's designed to fail (break). Minor hits are fine, but if you crash HARD and you lid gets whacked, chances are it's toast. For this reason companies like BELL and GIRO offer crash replacement helmets at substantial savings.

You don't have to spend a whole lot to get good protection. The more expensive, the more comfy. A pricer model will be lighter weight, and have more vents to keep you cooler, and provide a more adjustable fit.

Bell helmets seem to fit a rounder head better, where Giro's fit a more oblong head.

Prices start at $30.00. What's the value of your brain?

I started wearing my helmet mostly just because I got tired of everyone I ever rode with saying things like "where is your helmet?", "your not going out with out a helmet are you?", "you must be insane out here with out a helmet!" Well all these coments finaly anoyed me into getting one, and as I have been riding more and more, im glad they did. Ive taken a few falls that make me happy I have it. I have never run into anyone that will make fun of you for wearing a helmet, but nearly everyone will make fun of you for not wearing one.

Where is this that its against the law to not wear one anyway? Tats the dumbest thing ive ever heard. If you want to go and not wear a helmet and crash and scramble your brains, that should be your choice. Helps weed out the gene pool too.

Down here in FL, if you are under the age of 16, you MUST wear one. Older than 16 is recommended. I guess, older people are HARDHEADED! Pun Intended!

Yeah, you do have a good point. I do plan on getting a helmet I'm just a little broke right now. Should have one soon though, it's at the top of my list of things to get. There have been a few times where I should of been wearing a helmet. A long time ago I went flying off my bike and hit my head on the pavement. All i did was split my eyebrow open but if I was wearing a helmet that wouldnt of happened. Also it could have been a lot worse so I guess I was lucky.
