Mountain Biking - Anybody out there have a Warp and can give me a hand?

I was just given a 02 Warp DS-1 from a friend that is moving out of state. I know the reputation they have, but since I am on a pretty tight budget I am gunna ride it... hey its free!

My problem is that someone stole the shock off the back of it which is why the friend quit riding it. Why someone would steal just the shock is beyond me.. lol I plan on replacing the shock with a solid shaft with polyurathane bushings in the ends of it to in effect make it a hardtail bike.

Anyway....... Does anyone have one that could give me the eye to eye legnth of the shock at rest? That way I have an idea how long I need to make a solid bar on the mill.

No offense, but it sounds like an idea out of the darwin awards. If you want to fix it up, since you got the bike for free, just buy a cheap possibly used shock for it.

But seriously.. why isn't it a good idea? I am guessing that it has something to do with the geometry of the bike? I was figuring on making it about a inch shorter than the at rest legnth to simulate the 25-30%sag that it is supposed to have adjusted into it.

Either that or it will just beat the bike to pieces by not having the spring in there.

why don't you just call giant and ask them? I'll look around online and see what I can find, just don't do your idea. When it breaks, you will get seriously hurt.

The stock shock is a Giant HV, coil over w/ rebound adjust, 4.5" rear travel. You'll need to find a 2 way 4.5" shock for the bike. It should be expensive if you get a nice one, but you can find a cheap one on ebay or something.

I actually just found it in the owners manual just now.. after a day of searching online for the legnth of it imagine that it is in small print in the owners manual... 190mm or about 7.5 inches with 4.5 inches of travel

I'm not going to flame the noobidness of this little duck hunt y'all got going on here. What I will say though, is to go "shock-shopping", you need 2 measurements.
1-eye to eye (shock length)
2-stroke
Now you have the eye to eye, but your shock stroke is not 4.5"

Find out the proper stroke before you goof up the frame.

Both of those shocks work. I did my homework. Look at them and check up on them, but I read his online owner's manual and looked up the specs on the shock, but I'm almost 100% those are ok. So don't "flame the noobidness" and make comments like this. I am not a noob at mtbing at all.
