There's only 5 guys preregged in the 3's...just wondering if anyone else is planning on signing up at the race.

Seeing how only 10% of registrants usually pre-reg, that means you ought to have about 50 starters.

Eh....I did Doc Reilly the first year, prizes went 6 deep and there were 10 riders in the 4s...we agreed to share the pot evenly, rode the race as a group ride and then sprinted it out for the points at the end...

Why? Women, juniors and the eldest of masters often race in firelds of 10 or less, yet attack each other like any other race. Never give up a chance to win.

I might as well put my race report here

So, there were 6 of us total for the cat3 field. 67miles, 4400 ft of climbing. We did 4 laps of a loop with a decent climb, some rollers after it, and a nice downhill with a 4-5 mile finishing straight following it, right into a 20mph headwind. The downhill was very slightly technical, but not bad at all.

On the first lap, I stayed with the group and tried to gauge the fitness of everyone in it. I put in a couple of digs and was able to get a gap pretty easily. I was convinced I was the strongest guy in the 6 man field, but I figured I'd stay with them and just sprint it out at the end. Following the rollers we headed into the downhill, and for fun I decided to take it fast, which actually created a gap between me and the group. At the bottom, a guy bridged up to me, and I realized I had unwittingly created a breakaway. And off we went.

The guy with me off the front was nowhere near as strong as me, so we struck up a deal. We agreed that I'd let him sit on my wheel for the rest of the race provided he gave me the win. I needed him for mental encouragement, he needed me to stay away. It was a good deal. Coming into the feed zone climb on lap2, I took it kind of easy with him as he wanted to grab a bottle. No biggie, we had a minute gap by then. He took a couple of short pulls once we crested the top of the hill, which I was greatful for as it kept me feeling fresh. On lap3, I dropped him hard while doing tempo up the hill, but figuring I might need him to take pulls later I waited up and let him latch back on. He was pretty well spent by that point, so he just rode my wheel for the rest of the lap. On lap4, he asked one of the people in the feed zone what the gap was, and they said it was about a minute. I panicked and ramped up the pace a bit. He got dropped hard, and I didn't see him again till the finish line. With about 10 miles to go, my legs started cramping up a little bit, but a gel cured it quickly. I hammered to the finish, feeling paranoid that I was gonna get caught by the "field".

So yeah, I won. The guy that went with me on the break wound up finishing 4:30 behind me, in 2nd place. 3rd place finished 8:30 behind. Also, I won $100, which was key because I'm going to Six Flags tomorrow but spent the money I was going to use to get there to enter this race. :D

Nice ride KP, you rock. You do realize of course that should you ever show up on the Nyack Ride again the 45+ dudes will have little cholce in dealing with your presence other than pre-emptive homicide. Hope you can make it down soon.

Pcad will bring the Family Sized Advil.

But do not feel bad for Pcad. He is on the Outer Banks of NC, where all the Freds cycle on the same flat road. It will be like a giant game of Pcad Velo Pac Man as he gobbles them up whilst droping the hamer.

Congrats, KP. They're going to have a hard time turning down your upgrade - you're going to have mandatory points pretty soon from the look of things.

And percentages can go above 100, KP. How many points do you have now?

It was a 6 man race, so it doesn't count towards upgrade points. I should be there already though...the upgrade official hasn't approved or denied my upgrade request and I put it in back in mid July. Its a bit frustrating, because I want to sign up for the GMSR as a 2 and am getting antsy that it'll fill up.
