Road Cycling - Newbie Introduction

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Havent ridden seriously in about 10 years, have had a schwinn homegrown full suspension hanging in the garage for quite some time now. After watching 3 guys at work all take the plunge and buy 2 trek 5200's and a litespeed blue ridge I just couldn't take it anymore and grabbed a 2001 Lemond Zurich used off of roadbike review. I have always followed bikes and built a few mountain bikes in the early 90's and always thought road bikes were cool but never got one.
My endurance and technique are absolutely pathetic I am sure, but at least I have finally decided to endure the pain of getting back into shape after being out of the Marines for 3 years now and doing nothing but sit on the couch. I have gone on 3 rides so far and have picked out a nice 8 mile loop to ride at work that is full of nice big hills (worked me really hard the 2 times I have ridden it so far) I will start extending the ride every 2 weeks until I finally get my wind back. Anyone suggest any good websites that talk about riding technique and training? I have seen people talking about the Lemond and Armstrong books but I want something I can peek at while at work during my fretime. (can't bust out a book at work, but I can sneak away to websites all day long :D )

Congrats about getting back in the saddle. I'm in your same shoes. It's a lot harder riding at 26 than I remember it being at 16. Good luck! BTW, I'm liking the "other" bikes, especially the RC51. :)

Thanks JoePrim, I hit that yesterday and got the tips guide. Very useful info!
You guys crack me up to...you see the pic under a header for guitars and bikes and curiosity gets the best of ya!! LOL Too bad I am a beginner on the guitars too!! THe motorcycles are the only thing I have ever really stuck to, and when hitting the curves I am sure my heart rate monitor will be identical to what it is on my bicycle but for different reasons!:D
THanks for all the compliments guys! I really like the Lemond a lot.
