Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - I accused a guy of stealing on ebay...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Ok, so I'm an avid cyclist, and bikes get stolen all the time, and I see suspicious auctions on ebay constantly. Anyways, there was this rather shady looking auction, the guy didn't know ANYTHING about the bike(it was a fixed gear, btw), and didn't disclose where he originally got it. The bike was built at a store in my state, not to far from where I live, and his auction was taking place on the west coast. He said the bike was made in his state, which is a total lie because I know it was made in my state(even had the LBS logo on the bike lol). So I told the guy I had the exact same bike stolen, just to see if he'd open up a little more. He just kept feeding me lines like "I have the original receipt" blah blah blah. Yet he couldn't tell me where it was purchased from, and he could barely speak English. Now he has pulled the auction off of ebay. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't stolen, but was it really wrong of me to investigate using this method?
No, but it might have been effective to report him to eBay as well/instead so that other auctions could be shut down.
Did you report it to eBay?

Was this the orange bike? Cause I was going to bid on it... it seemed like a sweet deal... Oh man T_T
Maybe he lived in your state and moved.
Just because his writing skills are not up to par, doesn't mean he does not speak english well.
Like I can break up your post into smaller paragraphs so we don't have a big blob posting.
you could give us more info as well as in your state also or a link to what the ad ( save as works) looked like.
It is better to ask for more photos so you can look for marks that can id it as yours.
Everybody is flagging somebody, be sure your flagging with good reason. Have proof when doing so.

if he pulled the auction then you definately did the right thing. there would be no reason for him to do that unless it was stolen

Not so true, My boy got flagged and he got one post stating his was stolen, then others showed up.
He pulled his, I know it was not stolen because I was there when he bought it new.
Some people just don't want to deal with the bull.
Maybe it was stolen but I just ask to put proof here and more info when posting under this kind of topic.

Good job, unfounded accusations.
Just what we need more of.
