Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - what bike inspired you to choose bull horns (pictures please!)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My old Schwinn Super Le Tour conversion with RB-021's:

I know it's not a good shot of the stem/handlebars, but it's all I have, because the bike has been restored back to the original, geared setup.

Funny that you ask... http://velospace.org/files/sannino_01.jpg
I always thought this bike just had a mean look to it. But bullhorns are ugly - they're all out function in my book and that's what makes them beautiful. Pulling into the ends of bullhorns while going up a hill is the fixed gear ecquivalent to shifting down on your road bike.
Edit: also, the bike MIN posted because the thing just looks like you could take it 0-30mph in about 10 seconds.

I chose my Nitto 018s because when trying to ride a lil more aero the curve reminded me of riding on the brake hoods in drop bars...they're real comfy but kind of wide for the city.

Bullhorns let you have some of the same hand positions as road drops with STI levers, but without road drops and STI levers.

I find it more comfortable to stretch out on the bullhorns then to sink into drops. there's something about extending the reach instead of angling downwards. also, i find 'em nice for hill climbing. but when i first made the switch, the first thing i noticed was how much easier it was to shift your weight onto the front wheel for an effortless skid.
edit:"but if i wanted a pure track bike, i wouldn't run the bullhorns. The body position would probably make my commute more need-for-speed fierce.

Neither ridiculous nor ugly, and quite functional.
It gives a more upright and comfortable ride when holding the horns close to the stem, but lets you get down and stretched a little more when your hands move further out to the sides, and even more so when you reach out the horns.
I rode mine like that for a long time, it was great.
if i could find some dummy hoods that looked halfway decent, then i would rock those on drops. until then give em the horns johnny!

i went with bullhorns because i never rode my drops, and i like having my palms on the "elbows"
as far as inspiration, being from texas, i thought to myself long ago about strapping some steer horns on the front of a bike, and calfee has made me REALLY want to make that happen someday.

everything is stupider in texas
who give a **** if the hoods actually run to something or not?
