I cannot beleive it myself. The first 15 miles I felt sluggish ( had headwind and the hilly part of the ride ) but then I perked up and slowly got into a rythm.

First checked 25 mile point at 1:12:45, then ended up doing 50 in 2:25 flat @ 20.6 mph average. Did easy spinning for the last 9 miles for part of my recovery.

I got a good bath at the 30 mile mark and rode in a downpour for about 20 minutes or so but it was actualy refreshing and I think it helped me by cooling my body.

The most significant factor of my training this year that is different from my normal regime is I am doing more recovery rides. And I am doing more intense intervals once a week.

Every two weeks I will do a minimum 15 mile max effort ride as well.

I am happy with where I am now especially considering an erratic training schedule.

I really beleive in the power of disciplined recovery now more than ever!

Sounds like you had a great ride! Hope you didn't neglect the ole ball and chain's b-day while you were at it! ;)

 That's the best testimonial for recovery time that I've seen yet!

Koffee, my long term goal is to be as fast at 40 as I was at 29-31. I got a long way to go but itlooks as if it is not impossible.

Years ago I rode like I was on fire on 80% of my rides and recovered only one or two days a week. This season I am doing slow rides 3 times a week and only really pushing hard 2-3 times per week.

I am making better progress with the added recovery than I ever have and I am enjoying biking more as well.
