I recently discovered the 1000' elevation gain Santa Anita Canyon road, although I'm basically a flat lander I can certainly appreciate the beauty and challenge of mountains.

I plan now to scout the Monrovia Canyon and descend on Van Tassel, planning on parking about the middle of the two (Bradbury). Distance is about 15 miles not including some brutal climbing. Have anyone of you guys tried this route? Are the roads in good shape?

It must be a popular destination since I saw last weekend a bunch of roadies doing training loops around the Arcadia/Sierra Madre foothills :D

I didn't realize it existed, on my mapping program Monrovia Canyon is called a trail so I'm not sure if it's passable for a road bike, but let us know.

We sometimes go up Santa Anita Canyon, but we usually refer to it as Chantry Flats which is the name of the picnic area at the top.
