I will be one of the few guys on a bike with 20" wheels. It is black and also one of the few with a tan Brooks saddle. I am awaiting a new jersey so I cannot divulge that yet but if it gets here it will also be very identifiable.

2 and 3. Driving up Saturday morning from home in Madison.

Have a great ride. If you see a guy on an old blue 10-speed with toeclips & straps ... that's me.

Kenal0
08-06-07, 01:51 PM
How about a start time of right at 7:00 am. The 200K guys are supposed to start between 6:30 and 7:00. the 100K starts at 7:00. This way anyone who wants can meet at the start. Thoughts?
That will give me a shot at riding with some of the 100K guys before you 200kers drop me like a bad habit.

Sorry to here about the accident. I do see that you used the term "most likely" as opposed to "definitely"
so maybe some form of doping can increase your recovery time. I will bring some clean urine in case you need it for the post DLD testing.

Right now we are going to try and meet at the park for packet pickup sometime Friday early evening.
As far as dinner, I think that is up in the air. I have thrown out this place which is not too far from Dodgeville and closer to where Cylowe and Dave are staying. They do not take reservations.

Not sure where we will end up. I will make sure to keep you posted as to our whereabouts.

That restaurant's website looks pretty good. Steaks, chicken, pasta, sandwiches. Prices not too bad.

My plans for Friday are up in the air a bit. I will be coming in from Racine, but don't know the time I'll be leaving there. May be in Dodgeville to ride for a little while by 3:30, but that's doubtful. Packet pickup at 5 or thereabouts is more certain. Then check into hotel in Mineral Point and then on to dinner (or reverse those two).

Sounds like a plan. Also we should get a roll call for saturday start. So we do not leave anyone behind.
The no child left behind plan. I have already alerted Psimet2001 to my new digs since he might not make it. I hope he approves.

Not to be a jerk, but I'm going to be taking off as early as possible. The 200k route is long enough that I may take off at 6:30 or even earlier. I'm not worried about the whole chip timing thing so much.

You mean , 64. Actually with his injuries he'd garner a lot of respect and adulation from the crowd. I think that's a good idea. Nothing like some hills to make you forget about your injuries.

I'd like to start early too. Is it ok to start at 6:30 if you're only doing the 100k. Don't know why I even get a hotel....won't sleep that much. Might as well just park my bike at the start line and just hang there till dawn. :D

As I recall from last year the start was very informal. Start when you need to- the chip timing will take care of the rest. Good luck to all on Saturday!

CyLowe97

Yep, per the note in e-mail today:
"START TIMES:
The earliest start time is 6:00AM. We suggest that 266K and 300K riders
start at this time. Whatever distance you are riding, your time
starts ticking when you cross the first chip loop (leaving Harris Park). We
suggest that 200K riders start at 6:30AM and that 100K riders start
between 7:00 and 8:30AM. All of the rest stop planning has been based on
riders starting at these times. If you feel that you need extra time
to complete the 100K or 200K, feel free to start a bit early."

And here's why this ride is cool. They think of a lot of extras and react to rider feedback before the event w/r/t rest stop goodies, letting riders drop extra clothes off at rest-stops and returning them to the start, wi-fi at the start, etc.

And then there's this...
HELL'S BELLS
I have procured four school bells. They range from 6" in diameter to
22" in diameter (The big dong). There is a bell for each distance.
Once you finish, feel free to celebrate by ringing the designated bell.
If you finish the 300K, even if you are a woman, you are officially a
member of the big dong club!
 :D

Yes, I saw that, not to mention the complete stock of goodies at the rest stops. I see that they say riders are free to start anytime after 6:00 so whatever time is fine with me. Weather looks like it will be good as well. Nice and sunny and not quite as humid.
Psimet2001- we can duct tape your arm in place to help with the rotator cuff injury if that will help. I can just here the bell calling your name at the finish.

Dude, man up and ride one-handed! Ride a bike with downtube shifters and you can shift without lifting your bad arm.

Just kidding of course ... bummer to miss the event, I would be very disappointed. Heal up for the next one.

What if there isn't a next one? What if because of all the doping scandals, the DLD is discontinued?
I would not take a chance on missing if at all possible. That being said, riding in extreme agony ain't a whole lot of fun. Get well

Here's the thing about these types of events....the pain they produce could possibly eclipse the pain from your accident injuries.

Apologies to kenal0 ...I should not have just sprung that extra 2 miles on you so harshly. Crystal
