Well, the title says it all. I was riding back from class in the bike lane, when a semi made an illegal turn and my front tire hit his front bumper. I was going approx. 25mph, went straight over the handlebars and onto the blacktop. I have bad abrasions on my forehead and knuckles on both hands, bruises and road rash galore, and a torn muscle in my left thigh. It was one hell of a wakeup call, b/c I wasn't wearing a helmet. Thank the good Lord for my fighting training, because I hit my head first and I knew to clench my jaw so I would not get knocked out, and as soon as my head hit, I tucked my shoulder to roll and then popped right back up on my feet and got out of the way. If I had'nt rolled I would have been crushed. It looks like just the front rim is busted, but with the speed that I hit him, the frame might be jacked up.

Just thought I'd share my story as a reminder to be safe out there on the roads

Glad you're OK. Sounds scary. Get checked by a doctor anyway since you took the blow to your head. Neck and back problems could arise later. Is the bike OK?
Hopefully you got the guy's insurance info, truck company name, truck number, etc. Don't let it slide. Make the company pay for damages, hospital visits, whatever. Most trucking companies don't want the bad publicity for their drivers' actions and will work with you or your attourney.

As a part time tractor-trailer operator I hate instances like this caused by bad drivers... gives all truckers a bad name. So glad your relative OK..Physics was not on your side on this one. Clyde or not an 80,000 pound rig is nothing to get hit by. Do get yourself checked by a doctor and take action against the company and operator. So sorry this happened to you.

I drive am 18-wheeler full time in urban areas. Definitely get that company on the horn. I hold my associates to a very high standard - as should we all, and for all the right reasons.

Any accident you walk away from... +1 on seeing a doctor, there can be lingering effects after a crash. It's best to get yourself fully checked out.

Well, the darn phones are so cheap that barring a Britney/Nichole/Lindsay alert did somebody at least call beside the involved there?

I recall the amused look on the officer's face when I was about to enter town at the top of the exit here and a lady rearended my old 1968 CHEVELLE SEDAN and she was trying to get somebody on her cell (1996, and coverages were a lot spottier).

Heck, I couldn't get anybody down the road at the truck stop on my CB either (the base unit was down and nobody was monitoring, not even the usual bigoted, chauvinist, filthy trashball with a linear and reverb from hell. Aren't those the odds?

All she did was knock my speakers into the trunk, I got nary a scratch and the $60 insurance settlement let me fix them back and get a nice supper.

Too bad I missed my parent's 30-year marriage renewal, but I threw the 40th anniversary party.

Yeah, I've already seen a doctor. I went the day of, had x-rays and a good once over. I didn't have my cell phone on me, but thankfully there was a lot of traffic around. An older couple that own a restaurant in town helped me out and let me sit in their cargo van while it was raining. I have to go back to the doc on monday to get checked up again.
