Foo - What is a "neutral" detergent?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
My Plasma TV manual says to clean the screen with a neutral detergent but Google isn't willing to tell me who makes one. Anybody know?
I'm sure the manufacturer of your TV makes it, and will gladly sell you a tiny bottle for only $10000...

Must be Swiss...
You only really need to use it if your plasma TV has a manual transmission.

A "neutral soap" is one that isn't caustic. It is a mild detergent containing no alkalies or bleaches. For example, lye soap would be caustic and would damage the screen if used to clean it. Cleaners such as Windex and Formula 409 have ammonia in it which would also damage the screen.

My computer monitor is supposed to be cleaned with a neutral product, as well. I've been using Windex wipes (or similar) on it for almost three years, with no noticeable adverse effects.

Exactly. One that is PH neutral.

How dirty can it be? Wipe it of with a soft rag. If need be, a damp soft rag. That should get her done.

They are definitely talking about pH values. Although simply saying "neutral detergent" is a pretty dumb move IMO. So don't use a base or acid.
But then again, thought a detergent by nature was an acid or base? Just use tap water. Tap water, if I recall, has a pH between 6-8. You could use distilled water, which is truly neutral. I just bought distilled water for the forklift batteries at work, cost me $1.29 per gallon.

Just about any cleaner without ammonia (too basic) or citrus (too acidic) in it will work for you. I'd go with a cleaner that is ok for copy machine glass, computers, delicate electronics, etc. Places like Office Depot always sell stuff like this.
