Introductions - I'm here. My self intro.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I live in Ft. Collins, CO and am an old guy (56). I've been lurking in the shadows of the 50+ group, but thought I should expose myself. I probably shouldn't put it like that, but I think you know what I mean. I've been serious about cycling for more than forty years, but fall off the wagon occasionally. I've been pretty inactive for about 3 years now due mostly to health and family problems, and am working on getting back in shape. Most of my riding right now is commuting. My daily commute is about 28 miles round trip and I feel like I'm making progress. My aim is to ride 4 or 5 days a week to work and I usually make it at least 3 days a week and a longer ride on one of the weekend days. I hope by this fall I'll feel comfortable enough to do a couple of overnight tours. Looking forward to sharing the site with all of you. Tim

Welcome, Tim. I'll bet it feels good to be back. :)

Hello Tim, that's a nice comfortable commute length. Is that on mostly roads, or do you have MUP options?
What kind of bike(s) have you got?
Welcome to BF!

I have about 2 miles of MUP and the rest is a mix of city streets and semi-rural suburbia. Most of my riding over the past ten years or so has been on Specialized MTB with street tires, front fender and seat post mounted rack. With my renewed attempt at getting back in condition, I bought a new touring bike which I like very much (REI Novara Randonee) for its comfort, variety of braze-ons, and dropped bars. The annual 20% off any purchase of any one item for REI members made the purchase relatively painless. I hope to do some genuine touring later this year and the coming spring. Many old goats like me have long distance journals on crazyguyonabike.com and they're making me feel like I can do those trips, too. A nearly lifelong goal of mine is to ride across the U.S. and there may still be time!

I don't see why that goal isn't realistic. As you said, there are a lot of journals on crazyguyonabike.com that show that people achieve that all the time, and you've got a good bike for accomplishing that goal. And, you're used to riding in varied conditions, which is extremely helpful.

Hey Tim - that's a great goal to shoot for. Consistency is key!
