What a blast that was. Id been wanting to try track racing and today I finally made it out to Hellyer Velodrome. All I can say is its alot of fun, and one heck of a workout. It also exposes some things I need to work on. Ill be going more often, its gonna be a new way to train and enjoy riding. Its also car free.;)

Nope, not sure pics would really do it justice. Its pretty amazing the speed you can generate with one gear. Pursuits are alot of fun, but very painful, I like those alot.:D Video would be better. If I go Wed night Ill take my camera.

Did you rent or do you have your own track bike?
I keep threatening to make it try it but getting way down to Hellyer by 8:00 on Saturday morning is rough.
(Plus removing the brake from my IRO would be a PITA, wah!)

Yeah I rented. The bikes are in good shape and they are only $5 for the day. I will be using a loaner from the club until I either convert my fixie, or Ill buy a track bike.:D

They dont make you remove the brake, you just have to open the QR so it's disabled. and even that is negiotiable. (this is what Terry told me, i haven't done it myself)

Here's the home page of my Rans dealer. He took pictures when they had a recumbent day at the Hellyer Park Velodrome. Scroll down and they are on the right hand bottom of the page. There's a video on there, also.

I was there too on Sat. Man I am hooked, I can't wait till two more Saturdays when I go again. Almost picked up a Langster, but figure rent a couple more times and really get a bike I know I'll grow with.
If only it weren't so damned hot in San Jose!

Dang it! I would have been there on Saturday with you guys if it weren't for my own stupidity. I even had my newly built IRO ready to ride. Unfortunately, I forgot my shoes in Davis when I went down to my parent's house in SJ. Had all my other gear. Not even a pair of tennis shoes:mad: I still have one more beginner session to go to finish up my three so you'll see me out there at least one more Saturday.

Ahh, one of the guys with the Easton jerseys yeah? It was pretty cool how you all had a group there. I wasn't wearing my team jersey, but my teammate was. I had on the light blue jersey w/no arms so I could sunburn my tattoos. As a matter of fact, I think my teamate was in your 4 man group with you guys during the sprint drills when one of you unclipped or something. Damn it was hot, that's why I stay in the city ;)
I'm debating buying a bike as well, defiantly before I race, just not sure what to get. The rentals will get me by for now. Let me know if your going to be there on either of the next upcoming (starting the week after next) sessions, I'll be there for sure.

Went up to HELLYER yesterday , sep-1st, first go at it and had a great time. I ride fixed as my daily commute and did not realise the work out a track actually offers!. I also became aware of some changes i have to make on my bike before hitting the track again, like gear ratio from street to actuall track riding, crank length, and positioning while in sprints and heats.
