Barry Bonds - your #755 tonight :(

Hank Aaron will always be #1 in my mind until all you baseball bums get off the juice or at least except a loong ban when you get mixed up in a scandal. And by long I mean at least a season, not a 30-second timeout accompanied by a slap on the hand.

end of rant.

I'm sure that Hank was using whatever secret sauce was available at the time too.

I'm trying to find the bright side, but it is difficult. The best I can do is this...Alex Rodriguez has a realistic shot of beating this record, and I dislike him less than I do Bonds. He is a more complete player than Bonds, and has no drug issues hanging over his head. I'm a Red Sox fan, but I'll be pulling for him, anyway.<cringe>

...Year round strength training
+ Dime box sized ballparks built in 1990's
+ Diluted pitching from two expansions
+ And, yes, 'supplements' to aid them

Inevitable breaking of Aaron's record

I find Bonds loathsome as many others do, but calling records 'sacred' is inane. Records are made to be broken. Bonds would have broken it long ago, but he takes walks and gets walked intentionally. Say what you want about him, he's got one of the most selective batting eyes in the history of the game. He doesn't swing at a lot of stuff outside the strike zone.

Give him a few more years and Alex Rodriguez will be setting Bonds aside as the home run king.

Give it another 30 years beyond that and some other player will be doing the same.

The only unbreakable record in baseball these days is Cy Young's 511 wins.
