i've only just registered with the site after coming across it by accident. it's pretty damn good but it really does need a chat room. whether there would be enough users to create multiple subject chat rooms, eg, road riders, bmx, mtb, etc, etc i don't know but there should be one at least. i think i read earlier that it was being considered. so if it happens it will make the site a little more complete i think. there is a cycling chatroom on a.o.l but nobody ever uses it, this site has plenty of users to get enough people using a chat room. hope it happens.

Actualy, now that there is a consisitant flow of users online at any time, i too was thinking of adding a chat room. I already have the software installed onto the server, i just have to make a program that will only let registered users into the chat room.

BTW, Welcome to the forum cabledonut, i love people who name themselves after three cent bike parts :D

Yes, i agree....we need a bike forums chatroom. I always see a bunch of people signed on, but i cant talk to them

Not sure if thats a godd Idea... I like the "longevity" of the posts. Much discourse would be lost forever...

The 'live message' thing on the old bicycleforum site used to be pretty cool (when people used to respond), so something similar would be good here. I think we'd have to be careful that it didn't detract from the rest of the site though. There's a pretty good archive of useful advice here.

Our site blocks chat rooms, I just hope if one starts up it doesn't lead to the whole site being blocked :( Not that I'd consider reading posts during work time :D

How wil it work with different time zones.?

I'd hate it if people stopped contributing to forums because they only use the chatroom when online.

i really look forward to getting in in the morning and looking at all the posts which have been posted during the (Scottish) night.

having said that, it would be nice to "speak" to some of the regular contributors, even if it meant staying up to the early hours to do it.:)

Good point  but then I'm not overly bothered about chat rooms anyway...
