Foo - Sunburns... :(

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
On my longest ride yet, 3 hr 8 min, of course I forget the sunscreen:

Aww :(
go put some Aloe on it? If it's hurting get some of the "after sun" stuff, it's got a topical pain killer that will make it hurt less.

Oh, my! That is some angry-lookin' skin!
On the bright side, now you and Cypress have something in common. :) Well, once it goes from red to brown. :p

Having something in common with Cypress is a plus?

Really? You are crazy. :p Gawd, that just sounds like it would sting like crazy. Too bad I don't have any... I've been putting Aloe on it, but I swear that stuff does nothing but make me sticky.

Heh... funny thing is, this isn't even close to the worst burn I've ever had. I'll never learn.

Just straight Aloe will really only help you heal a bit faster and keep you from peeling, I don't think it actually helps with any stinging/burning...
Ouch! :(

yea, it does sting a tad, but, really, it does help. that's what i used when growing up and all we used for sunscreen was baby oil or coppertone 4.

Do you have any teabags? Soak a tea bag in cold water for a few minutes and rub it on the burn.
Good luck!

Oh dear. That was me last week. But now I've got that biker's tan that is rumored to get you discounts at certain LBS's. The rumor isn't true though.
Oh, and the mesh strip down the back of my jersey gave me a heck of a red stripe down the middle of my back. I wish I would have taken a photo. It might have made you feel a teensy bit better.

This won't help but as fair as you are you should never go out without sunscreen. But you probably know that already. Wish I had a remedy for you. Hope you feel better soon.

Heh. That was when baby oil amplified the sun and coppertone 4 was for protection :)

Thanks, Dad. :D Yeah, I've been burned pretty badly before, to the point I should have gone to the doctor. I'll never learn. I was laying on the couch feeling sorry for myself, not talking much to my roommate, and she goes, "Geez, you get a sunburn and you get an attitude. What are you like when you're sick?" :D
I got a pretty bad sun burn from spending two days at the beach last week. The skin on my shoulders just started to peel today. :p Oh joy.
I managed to not get burned on 7 consecutive days of 5-6 hours in the saddle/sun. Except for my lips... lower lip, specifically. That got fried. The blisters have just now healed over a week later. Ugh.

I'm not one to talk. But if you get burnt and badly, please be careful and use sunscreen. You are a good candidate for skin cancer.

That actually makes sense...next time I get a burn, I'm gonna try that!

Then try a thin smearing of aloe, then put on some lotion 5-10 mins later. That'll break up the residue left over from the aloe. I suggest Aveeno's Daily Moisturizer. It's a bit pricey, but amazing.
Next time, just do what I do. Be Mexican. Harder to burn. ;)
EDIT: Cute nails. Match your skin... ;)

You always look so angry, like someone just pissed in your cheerios.:)
I feel truely blessed... I went out saturday for my longest ride this summer, about 2.5 hours worth. At about 11:30 a.m. I realized that I forgot to apply sunscreen and my arms were feeling a little tender. I got home and there was a definite tan line on my arms and legs, but it was only slightly redish. Later that evening it turned to a nice brown that I would consider a 'base tan'. Thank god for the part of me that takes after my mother's complexion (1/2 philippino). I guess my bigger problem now is deciding if I should rely on this base tan to carry me through another 2.5 hour ride, or count my blessings and not take the chance. I guess I should go out and get some spf 4 or 8.
Tough break with the sunburn though. I've got this stuff at home that's basically a spray can of lidocane (or some other topical analgesic). It's also got some menthol in it, which I think also helps with the pain. I've used gel products in the past that do the same thing, but I found the spray can was far less sticky, although it was probably more greasy.

I'm afraid you're right. April- you're fair, but do you also freckle? If so, you're at even more risk. You should be hittin' SPF45, at least, and get the stuff that protects against UVA and UVB. Take care!!!
I normally do wear sunscreen, just forgot it yesterday. ;) I used to freckle, but not as much anymore.
