I got one of those exercise ball things [1] and, being the bike guy that I pretend to be on the Internet, I start pumping it up with my bike pump.
"Whew, this is tiring," I say. "Squeak squeak!" replies my bike pump. What? So I check it out. The rubber hose between the pressure gauge and the base is hot. Not warm, but burn-your-fingers hot. And the expanding rubber was letting air out.
This shouldn't be all that surprising to me, what with PV equalling nRT and stuff, but the big pansy ball putting more of a hurt on my trusty pump than my 120PSI road-bike monster was definitely surprising.
So if you don't hear from me in a while, my bike pump finally gave out and took out my shins.
[1] Scoff if you like, but I tried one at the gym, and crunches on it definitely work my abs differently than floor crunches. So now I do both. It was on sale. Woohoo!
