Hey,
A friend and i are taking a vacation this summer in Brodhead, WI. We're staying at this great place, http://www.earthridercycling.com/, which is both a bike shop and a hotel. It's located out in the middle of dairy country in Wisconsin. The challenge in planning a route riding from Chicago to Brodhead is mainly getting out Chicago and onto the country roads without having to spend significant time on major thoroughfares (sharing the road with semis, etc).
Has anyone ridden this route before? I can follow the lake front bike path north, and then take Sheridan Rd. all the way up into the suburbs, but from there, I'm stuck trying to tack west and I get stuck on huge, suburban 4 lane roads with 40 mph speed limits and very little shoulder (less than ideal). We're riding road bikes, which rules out the Green Bay trail.
Just looking for any tips for the route or for the ride. Thanks!
