Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Lightest rig owned by a SS/FG poster

Something I don't hear about to often is weight wiener talk in here. Does anyone have any light weight rigs they would like to share?

I'll start with my 16.0Xlb Look KG386 that I've started riding fairly regularly. USE seat post, front and rear brakes, older SLR saddle, mountain TruVative bar. It's not really eye opening considering a fully geared madone with bottle cages computer etc can weigh less but either way lets hear of your light weight setups.

Pictures please? Never seen a Look SS before. Would be interested in seeing it. My Langster, sans aerobars is 17 pounds.... not light, but not a tank either.

Well, I post in SSFG so... My road bike weighs in at about 16-17lbs. My fixed gear only 4lbs, because it is only a frame and fork right now.

Some time ago I have accepted a challenge by Ken Cox to build a 13 pound bike for less than $500.
It took patience and work but I have built 3 bikes meeting the requirements and being solid enough to ride them. I will not run 2 of them in their lightest configuration but still:

13.0: unknown make steel TT frame (1700g), bianchi carbon fork, zip 303 rear, mavic gl330 front, tubulars, unknown make carbon seat post, Dura Ace 7300 cranks, gipiemme stealth saddle, mix and match BB, carbon straight bar, boplight pedals.

12.8: Kinesis titanium MTB exhibition frame(1350g), Nashbar(!) carbon fork, some other titanium/carbon HW, choice of 2 Mavic or Zipp wheelsets, coda cranks, can go lower with fork not equipped with disk brake mounts.
Pics of the above two will appear shortly.

12.1: Wheeler triathlon titanium frame and fork modified to accept 700c rear wheel, bora 650c front, zipp 700c 303 rear, modified chorus road cranks, titanium stem, carbon seatpost, pic later as bike is away.

Last two bikes have vertical dropouts, I have modified the idea of a front disc hub driven by bolted on cog to propel these.

I should take my road stuff and put it on my track frame. I bet I could break 15 lbs. All I would need is a semi light crank and wheelset.

While those sound like fun bikes, I think you have a very different definition of $500 in Poland than we do here...

That is where the patience came in.

^ ebay and it's Polish equivalent allegro are your friends if you have lots of time (I had other bikes to ride) and right filters. Bad images in postings help, too, as do sellers not knowing what they really sell.
I love fork steerer tubes cut too short for the intended use and overly shortened seat posts.

I especially like ebay.co.uk.

My steel frame was $70, titanium wheeler was $90, carbon/titanium MTB was $200.
I got 3 Mavic gl330 rims for $20 - nobody rides tubulars and I love them.


Zipp 303 wheels are status item, hence prices of older ones are dropping fast with each new model: lower spoke count, dimples, etc. I wanted old, 32 spoke ones for it was easy to get disc hubs with 32h, didn't get them in time, settled for $230 28h one, got $80 back for the hub I didn't need.

BTW. There was a track specific zipp 303 set sold at Kissena for $300 (titanium spokes included) I didn't get :-( but there are other good deals on them.

I could go on but I guess it's boring.

Drat I couldn't snap a pic in time before my silly sensible self put gears back on the bike. Oh well here are a few as it currently sits. It weighed 16lb SS and with a longer chain, 105 der, simplex DT shifter and dura ace cassette it is 16.8lb

I have a long ways to go. 19.0lbs on my Pista with carbon fork, SS freewheel, and Nitto RB021. I think my weight is in the wheels and cranks.

that ti frame on zip wheels is crazy.

the 14 lb pista concepts are gravy too.

I don't doubt vobopl's truthfulness for even an instant, but I have difficulty understanding the "$500" part of his statement.

Light, functional, used frames have a higher dollar value than that reported by vobopl.

Perhaps differences in local economies would explain the extremely low cost vobopl paid for his frames.

I know when I worked in Saudi Arabia, many of my fellow American workers would go to Warsaw for their time off because they liked the Polish people and because the American dollar had high purchasing power in Poland.

Here in America, though, light and functional parts as described by vobopl would cost considerably more than the prices vobopl reports.

What would it cost in America to make a real fixed gear bike that weighs 13 pounds?

and, if it helps, I have broken my ti MTB frame on the first skid :( - I knew it had problem with the seat cluster, I have had it repaired but not good enough.

I have a 2006 Sputnik that's spec'd at 16.5lbs, but the spec sheet doesn't say for what frame size. Probably the smallest. This thread has me curious now. I'll have to go find a scale...

Any ideas on what a Pista frame weighs? Also mine is heavier since I am running a front brake and I have a SS cog in addition to the fixed cog (plus add ~200 grams for my bottle cages and adapter.)

My IRO SE build came in at a hare under 7 without brake. I could get it under 6.8 if I put light cranks and an SLR on it.

Not to be "that guy," but the first wheelset is 9/10 speed compatible and the second isn't even a wheelset at all.

My Capo with modifications tips the scales at 16.7 lbs with front brake.. With no brake and track drops, and a lighter seat/seatpost, it gets to be under 16 lbs.


Now, if I were to get the better Cannondale fork (Slice Premium, I guess), and get a lightweight wheelset (32h Deep Vs are heavy), I could get it well under 15. It's a really nice frame :)

FYI...my 53cm with volos wheels / stronglight crank / one brake & 2 levers is a hair under 18. 16.5 as OEM is nonsense.
