Mountain Biking - Flat soles or not

Do you like to wear flat sole shoes with platform pedals on your all mountain bike or do you like a bit of tread for the occasional hike a bike?

I wear five.ten Impacts when I ride platforms. They're the best. Seriously. They're more comfortable off the bike then any shoes I've tried and the soles are made of stealth rubber, so they stick like crazy to pedals, rock, wet roots, whatever. They've got a reasonably stiff midsole, somewhere in between regular skate shoes and clipless, so they're more efficient pedalers than the former. And (to get back to your original question) the tread pattern is pretty shallow, so mud buildup is mitigated.

Both. I've pair of approach shoes from La Sportiva. Soles are flat but with lots of small, round, rubber "buttons" (for lack of a better word). I get plenty of traction on the ground, and my shoes grip the pedals well too.

And I do the occasional hike-a-bike too :) .

Hogwash! When I'm out on an urban assault mission I roll these bad boys.By far the best shoe for flats that I know. Sometimes you need that little extra edge when you're shredding the gnar.Thats how I rock it!
