BMX - I can't get my wheel off.

Okay, today when i was riding, i saw a giant curb. Like 1.5feet tall. I decided to bunny hop onto it.My back wheel hit the top of the curb and the tire went flat in 2 seconds. I come home and decided to change the tube. This was the first time that i had to take off the wheel on this bike. The chain on the bike is really tight, too tight to take it off the sprocket or the driver. Is there a way to take the tire off? Or, can someone tell me how to un-link a chain?

Also, i noticed the rim had a little indent on one side. Is there anyway to fix that?

Haha. That's a bit contradictory there.

As for your problem, just start untightening the nuts on your backwheel- this will take off some pressure on the chain and you should be able to slide the chain off and then take your back wheel off. When you put it back on again, you should use something to push the wheel back (such as a large screwdriver) so you have some tension on the chain.

For your dent, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. You can either leave it alone for now, or you can get it trued at your local bike shop.

Hey fit, the wheel would not come off, so i finally unlinked the chain and got it off. For the dent, i just took a wrench and pushed it outwards a little so it was as straight as i could make it.

If they are really stripped, you can take it to an extreme and tapper the screw [drill a hole through the middle of the screw, the thread the inside with a tapper] and then screw another screw into that screw and screw the screwed up screw out. Jeez, I suck at explaining things. But if you some-what understand what I'm saying, it works.

You shouldn't need to unlink a chain to get your back wheel off. All you need to do is push the back wheel as far forward into the dropouts as possible, then pinch the chain on the chainwheel and pull it up and to a side. Then backpedal it off gently. I mean unless there is literally no slack at all, that should work. Just watch your fingers.

I don't know where you could have stripped a screw on the back wheel, though. If you mean the bolt, use a monkey wrench. The more torque you apply, the harder it grips. In the future, screw or bolt, use the right size socket/screwdriver and make sure you have a firm grip before trying to unscrew to avoid stripping. Invest in a 4-way socket driver that has sizes used on your bike. They're the best for easily tightening/untightening and they can reach into pegs if you every get any.

Sorry guys that I was gone for long. The stipped screw is on the stem. I am not sure if it is a screw or called something else. Anyways, I think i might be able to get the stripped things off with a fatter tool. Federal, if the fatter tool does not work i will do what you said. That sounds good.

Syn0n, I HAD to unlink the chain. I pushed the tire as far as I could towards the sproket and I tried what you said, and it still did not come off.

Everything thing is good right now. Oh yeah I have a question. My handel bars seem like they are dipping down to one side. They are like at an angle. I think they are, but not 100%

Oh yeah, one more question. Where can you get a couple screws for your stem?

Yep, its probably me, or is it...

instead of threading the hole you drill in the stripped screw and inserting a screw into the threads to back it out, there is something called an EZ-OUT. You still have to drill a hole in the stripped screw, but then you just tap the ez-out into the drilled hole and back it out with a wrench. no need to tap and thread anything.

And how much do one of those cost?

My way is deffinetly not the only way, but I guess if all else fails, it's worked for me. EZ-OUT does wonders.

ez-outs are like drill bits... I think they cost around 3-5 bucks at a hardware store.

if this wheel is still stuck on the bike, it may be time to take it to a bike shop, but something tells me that the issue has been resolved by now.
