I have a trek 7700 and use it also for offroad trails.. goes fine though, but i was wondering if it would be possible to "convert" it to a mountainbike. (like changing the tiresize?)

I was in a similar dilema. I just bought a mountain bike. Your wheels can take a 29 inch tire if you can find some thin enough to fit between the chainstays. Also, the 29'er fans say bigger wheels are better on the trail.

I think he meant like tire width(ex. 2.1"), and not wheel size. Oh and if you can make it fit wider tires will help a bit by giving your bike more stability, and better traction.:p

Yes, you are limited in width though. But compared to what you have now you can go much wider.
