My road bike came with 700x25 IRC Redstorm clinchers. I planned on replacing them next spring, but I noticed yesterday that they seem to be cracking in the center, as if they're drying out from too much sun. I did have a puncture on the rear a few weeks ago but that was due to some glass in the road. The hole was so small I couldn't even find it after I replaced the tube. They are fully inflated and I check the pressure before every ride. They have about 300 miles on them. I'm bringing the bike back to my shop for the break-in tune-up this weekend. Should I demand new tires or will I be ok with these? I have no complaints about the performance but will probably replace them with narrower ones (a whole other thread). Thanks in advance.

those are hte tires taht I have, and I have almost 800 miles on mine...without cracking. it sounds like those tires were in storage too long or something before they mounted them to the bike. yes, you should probably demand new tires.

I had that same tire and had never ending flats. Mine started cracking on the sidewalls first. The went alot of miles before the flats started. I think they were just getting too thin to stop it. I have replaced them with Serfas Seca FPS tires and havent had a flat yet, in 300 miles.

I think it depended upon the tire and the amount of road debris you have. I had a set of Bontrager Race Lites that I only road for about 300 miles before they started to crack along the sidewalls. I replaced them as soon as I notice it as I like to push the speed on decents...it would be a bad day to have a blow out going really fast.
