lately my gas has been horrible. im not getting stomach pains but im farting non stop in the afternoon. and the odor is off the wall. i have been eating much healthier and am slowly eating more and more organic foods. is this a possible result? obviously diet will affect your tummy but i figured with better food and eating habits it would be less gas and not as smelly.

in part genetic and related to your intestinal flora, which are not easy to
change. Your diet has given your complement of colon bacteria more to
metabolize, and like your output of water vapor and CO2, they generate
H2S, CO, CO2, CH4 and H2 as well, which is why farts are flammable.

+1, hydrogen sulfide is the rotten egg smell, methane and hydrogen provide the flame. The exact contents can vary from person to person as "sch" notes above. CO2 is usually presents as well, however carbon monoxide?? That's produced through an the incomplete combustion of fuels such as gasoline, kerosene . . .I'm not so sure about that one.
What these guys are trying to say is: cut down on the broccoli and dairy.

An old timer recipe includes pinto beans for the gas and garlic, fish, and peanuts for the aroma....... still gotta watch out for that SHART turtle though..........This recipe will also keep people from asking you to lead the paceline...... You will be allowed to draft behind everyone.............

Four years ago I lost 30 pounds on Weight Watchers and no exercise. A friend who was doing the same thing and I both noticed we passed quite a bit of gas during those weeks when the weight was about to drop to another plateau. This year I am losing some of the same 30 pounds again, but with a lot of cycling and some more careful eating. Some afternoons I start passing gas for no apparent reason. There are people I am supposed to visit in the afternoons, too. It is difficult to do my job. Anyone who can explain it has my gratitude.

And lately since cycling and eating better I am doing a lot more of it too!
One year I was so bad I asked my doctor about it. He said, "It's the fiber, stupid. Elephants fart like crazy." More natural foods = more fiber. Also, try avoiding raw onions and especially freeze dried onions like in onion flakes or powder. Cook your beans with Kombu (a seaweed) - that helps. Try avoiding oats, especially in granola. Try avoiding just straight drinking milk, though not dairy in general - you need the calcium and protein. Try dropping one thing at a time and see if you can find the magic thing.
The Book of Lists listed the ten foods most likely to cause gas. Beans were right up there. I've read that some foods like beans can digest so slowly they get down into a part of your intestines where gas is produced. Like beans. I can see where excess fiber would get undigested food down there too. Try eating Ensure or Boost for a while before meetings maybe.
Use Beano! Works great. Not just for beans, but most complex carbs, like those in veggies and whole grains. I use the liquid, and 2 drops is plenty for a whole bowl of red beans and rice. My little 0.5 ounce bottle has lasted almost 6 months.
Same happened to me during the first weeks I changed my diet to a healthier one. After a while your colon and intestinal flora get used to the new diet and the farting decreases substantially, just hang there and if you feel like farting, do it in the WC.

I was told that "undigested carbs" play a role in the fart factor. We eat pretty healthy and occasionally take a digestive enzyme. That has really worked wonders. The paint no longer peals off the wall...I don't take the enzyme often, cause I don't like the idea of it, but come pizza and heavy carb/fiber...

Yea I began eating healthier and taking Multi Vitamins and Fiber supplements.... my roommate hasn't talked to me in a week!
Get a probiotic (aka acidophilus) supplement and take as recommended on the bottle. Keep taking it for a week even though you may feel fine. Then switch to half dosage for a week, and finally take it (like a single capsule) once or twice peer week. Gas is pretty normal when switching from a meat-heavy diet. You may need to try a few different probiotics (they tend to vary in flora) until you find one that works.
there is a lot of good tips for you. These are general ideas for you to investigate. I have experienced the same thing as you. I also have had some food allergies in the past to figure out. The allergy culprits are mostly nitrates and hydrogenated yeast (almost MSG). The biggest problem with gas is was PotAtoE cHiPs!!!!!!
Start doing a food diary and try some elimination periods to narrow down the problem food.
I recommend the ACTIVE yogurts every once in a while and regular yogurt on a regular basis.
