Introductions - Hallo!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've biked with my brothers for fun all my life. I've just moved away from my family, and started biking to commute, exercise, and explore the bay area. Cheers.

Hello DD, there's a lot to see and do in the Bay Area. You should check out the regional forum for Northern California. It's a great bunch of people there, and they have a lot of rides :) .
Do you not do any road cycling, and are you north, south, east?
Welcome to BF!

I do actually do mostly road cycling, as it takes about 9 miles to get to the mountain bike trails from my apartment, and I'm still getting used to biking. I don't have a road bike. I also commute to school, which is all on pavement. I live in Mountain View.
Is east hill a place in the bay area?

No--it's a place up here in Puget Sound, by Seattle.
Oh, and what kind of bikes have you got?

I have a hardtail mountain bike. It was ~300 at Dick's Sporting Goods awhile ago. It's a Schwinn Solution FS AL (the blue and silver model) if that means anything to you. I'm enjoying it so far, except for the chain rubs on front derailer (if that's the name for the metal bracket that pushes the chain side to side on the front gears). I'm trying to figure out if it's adustable lately. What kind of bikes do you have?

Yes, that's the derailleur. You could be doing what's known as 'crosschaining', which will occur at some point in the gears on every bike, so you need to learn what combination of gears to avoid. Or, it could need some minor adjusting. There's probably a thread or two going in the Bicycle Mechanics forum right now about derailleurs :D ...there's always a thread about adjusting derailleurs.
What have I got? Well, I have 12 some bikes, all but two of them are vintage steel. My hardtail MTB is a 1985is Fuji Thrill. The rest are road bikes, ranging from a 1979 Nishiki Pro, to a 200? Rodriguez. There's photos of most of them hidden here and there in the Classic & Vintage forum :) .
