Southern California - Labor Day Weekend 9/1- 9/2 Bike/Camp/Watersports II

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Where is this located? Not familiar with any of the places listed. I see people from SD respoding but the poster says Las Vegas and Ontario.

Do it...just do it! :-) Hey, Mark (Hollywood) just challenged me last night to a spin-off at VOF on Saturday and then goes and plans to ride the Lee Canyon climb! That boy is confused. So, should Mark make an appearance Saturday, I'll need some extra muscle power to wear him out!!

Put me in the 3rd list with the Jasons.
This could be a maybe if the wheather is a little more conducive to a nights sleep and days ride. But tell us more about that Mt. Charleston Hill Climb thing on Saturday. :D Is there a link to the organizing entity?

Hey Beanz did Gina take that photo? I thought you said you were 240 in the other thread? I'm thinking a little more material on that swimsuit wouldnt hurt :p

No special shoes are needed. Hiking boots or even sneakers are fine. If you're an experienced Rappeller (if that's even a real word) I'm sure you would already have them. The guys/gals that are leading this excursion are seasoned climbers and stated you only need the above. But if you are experienced and don't have the shoes and plan on reaching new heights :p PM me.
I'm out. I should visit my parents since I haven't visited them for a while. Hopefully some other time... it really does look like fun.

Went and rode Lee Canyon yesterday (Mt. Chuck hill climb)....cannot see myself racing up that with 100 other bloaks....it took plenty of concentration just focusing on keeping myself on the road. For those of you who haven't done the climb...it's only 17 miles of pain and promise....just do NOT stop pedaling until you reach the top. VOF ride sounds really nice right now. :D

I'm definitely interested. I'll have to check w/my better half, but if we do come, it'll be 5 or 6 of us (my daughter may have to work). Ages of the kids: 13, 11, & 9. Camping.
Asia, what costs can I expect to incur?

Sounds great :) would you be camping in the valley of fire or by the lake with the rest of the hoolligans :)

Camping costs 14.00 a night in the valley of fire and free along the lake - outside of that I cannot imagine what else you would spend money on. We have plenty of food and drinks that everyone is welcome to and whatever you may bring. Bikes are charged 1.00 for riding through the valley of fire. You're always free to buy me ice cream if you're just itching to spend some cashola :D Seriously though it's cheap, we're fun, we're actually borderline ridiculous at times but most importantly we're cheap :)

How did I know you were gonna pick that. Yeah it's quite the fun bunch camping out there. Everyone that I have listed as camping will be there.
Let me know what your better half says :p and if you need any camping equipment. ( ie...tents and air mattresses ).
mkadam68
08-20-07, 02:37 PM
Nope...no camping equipment...we're old hand at that. Actually camped across America 10 days in June of 2002. Saw some awe-inspiring things (Grand Canyon anyone? Mesa Verde, etc...)

Okay...looks like we're in. 5 definite, 7-maybe.
Can I get details on what time I'm supposed to show up? Or is it "whenever"?
How long does it take to get there from, say, San Fernando Valley?

Driving time alone 5 hrs. - if you make stops - who knows. You are riding on Saturday morning aren't you? Which would mean you should arrive Friday and set up your stuff. Give me an idea of what time. I will PM you my number eventhough is plastered all over the other thread. Glad you and the family can make it.

Asia, Lee Canyon...was roughly 2 hr. to the top. Needless to say, I was riding with Hollywood and our NUBS counterparts, so I was cookin' up that hill. I think the record last year was around 1 hr. 20 min. It's an 18 mile climb, approx. 4500 ft, no relief....just don't stop pedaling!
OK; so did VOF get washed away Monday? Will it evaporate over the weekend, or just dry out?
