Northeast - Bethpage bike trail

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

i went there last week with my full rigid mtb and it was my first time. all i can say is wow! i was riding over tree trunks, stones, getting stuck in deep sand... it was awesome!
I ride that trail all the time but usually stick to the paved trail. I have yet to experiment the dirt trail. I still love it there.
Is there a bike trails map for Long Island? I'm interested in the Massapequa to Bethpage run, and also the trails down to the Jones Beach area. I want to head down there and show my kids the area one day.
Thanks!
There is a greenway trail that runs along the bethpage dirt trails and north of the LIE -I was working up there and managed to make it past syosett, but lost the trail after that- it seems to split at different points while going through different neighborhoods
I have a book called Short Bike Rides - Long Island. It tells you about the different trails and gives you a description. Short Bike Rides (http://www.amazon.com/Short-Bike-Rides-Long-Island/dp/0762702087/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-1238996-7858565?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1187322407&sr=8-1)
You can also check out: http://www.transalt.org/map/
This site is pretty good too, but you have to join in order to view the maps and other information. I think they have a trial where the first 3 months are free: http://www.trails.com/activity.asp?area=14973

Thanks, Tina. You can ignore my request for the same thing over on the Massapequa thread!

This is the LI mt. bike club. There's assorted info. on the mt. bike trails on LI, though there's no map of BP.
One reason for no map, is that there's no marked trail system in BP, excepting the old CLIMB white triangle 4.5 mile loop, many of the trail markers are gone.
Best bet to learn the 15-20 assorted miles of trails is to join a CLIMB BP ride, the site lists the calender. Note that not as much riding occurs in BP during the summer months due to poison ivy and ticks.
The marked Greenbelt mt. bike and hiking trail runs from the north end of BP to Stillwell Woods in Syosset.
The paved BP Bike trail runs from Merrick Rd. in Massapequa to the picnic area parking lot in BP State Park, approx. 7.5 miles ea. way.

Massapequa Bike Club also does mtn bike rides. Post on the club forum and I know you will get more info. Here is the link to the MPBC website, then just click on forums
