I'm thinking about doing a ride from Marysville, TN to Robbinsville, NC, which borders the western side of the GSMNP. Has anyone ridden this, and if so, when is the best time of the year to do it?

I've riden the Skyway from Tellico Plains to Robinsville a few times. That way, West to East, is by far the harder way to go. As far as when to go, I think there would be no problem as long as there was no snow up on top. Basically, anytime but the dead of winter.
