Northern California - Peninsula Velo Satuday rides

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was thinking of trying a ride with them this Saturday. Their Saturday rides sound slightly mellower than their Sunday ones.
Anybody got with experience with PenVelo? Do they welcome guests on their rides?
I'd be surprised if they didn't welcome guests. But if they don't, you're welcome to join the Alto Velo Saturday B-Ride. :) I haven't decided where we are going yet, though.

Hey Alan,
I've been meaning to trying that ride out too but I just haven't had the opportunity.
If you make it, report back how it was.

Thanks much for the invitation, Steve. I'm sure I'll be joining you guys very soon for a guest ride also!

I'm just too damn slow to ride with you guys ... probably from all that weight I gained :(

We'll see ... I might come out and do the flat portion, and once there is a slight elevation, you could see me drifting into the distance

Okay then, I'll try to be nice. I'll be the guy on a Team Red BMC Pro Machine.
A/V B-Ride will be Foothill/Stevens Canyon, Mt. Eden, Pierce, Hwy 9, Skyline to Skylonda, back to Los Altos via Portola Valley. 45-ish miles.

Hi - my wife and I want to join a local ride, but don't know where to even begin...
She just got a new Look, and we've been wanting to start off on a 40-45 mile ride.
Where do you guys meet? Any kind of website for more information on when/where/how hard/etc.?
Thanks a lot,

Well BF posters sometimes get together on various rides. Just look for threads.
As for regular group rides see the following:

Yes...everyone is welcome to join the PV Saturday ride (...or Sunday for that matter). You can view an overview and expectations of the rides at http://peninsulavelo.org/secondary/rides.html. Also, if anyone is looking for a group ride a little mellower than these around the same area contact Cyclepath bike shop of San Mateo (www.cyclepath.com); they have group rides as well on the weekends that start off from the shop.

Went on the Alto Velo B ride. Very nice ride and group. I did okay up Highway 9, but then couldn't keep up with the main group. Great training. Uploaded the ride from the Garmin here:

I didn't make the PenVelo ride this Saturday. Got an invitation to play tennis with some friends on Saturday morning. I'll do the ride next week.

Hey SteveE,
What kind of pace does the A/V BRide keep? Any hints on the group composition on any avg Saturday?
Thanks
I'd guess the average speed lately is 17.0 mph +/- 0.5 mph. Last week's ride: Los Altos-Foothill-Mt. Eden-Pierce-Hwy 9-Skyline-Skylonda-Hwy 84 E-Portola Valley was about 45 miles and 17.0 mph. Higher speed if you're always at the front. Slower if we're always waiting for you. :)
