I have done three, 50 mile rides. Each one has been getting progressively more difficult for me to finish. Things are a little different now too as far as my riding. To give a little info, I'm a paramedic and I work 2 day shifts, then 2 tonight shifts, then 4 days off. The first day off is worthless because it's the day you finish the second night shift. The first 50 mile ride I did while on vacation while getting the same amount of sleep every night, and in a regular riding and sleeping routine. The second ride was the day of my first night shift. Got to sleep on that day, felt pretty good. Had horrible wind that day, around 20 MPH. Tailwind towards the end when I was so bonked from fighting it, that it really didn't help much. The third one was today, on my third day off. I usually feel pretty strong on this day and is the day I usually try for a hard ride, distance and/or effort. I did do a group ride last night on my second day off, which was 30 miles. I'm still a little worn down that day. I did the ride, but did not go as hard as some of the others. Todays ride I got about half way which is less distance than most group rides I've gone on, and just felt wiped.. Granted there more hills than I had the first 2 times and a good wind, not like the second ride though. Am I getting too paranoid over this, or should I be eating and resting more? I think todays was due to lst nights ride, and the second one was worse from the first due to the wind. My average speed wasn;t much below my regular average speed from my group rides or when I commute to work, on the second ride. Was the same average the first time. Today it was almost 1 MPH lower even with working harder. Just thought I'd run this by everyone.
