I rode a hot (95F) century on Saturday and I had a weird muscle pain at the 100 mile mark. The pain was in my right leg (thigh) muscle. It's the muscle that starts at the inside of the knee and goes up and over towards the hip. It wasn't a cramp but it was sore inside the front of my thigh. It didn't stop me from riding the last 3 miles but it hurt and I rode slow (about 12 mph but the overall average was 16.8 mph for 103 miles). Today I rode and as long as I didn't push as I would in a climb I didn't feel it. The leg occasionally looses strength when climbing stairs. Did I do something bad? Time for a doctor or do I just back off and let it rest?
Some background, I've been riding centuries every weekend, from the late spring to early winter for the last 6 years. During the summer I normally ride in the heat but I will shorten the ride if the temperature is predicted to be over 100F. I'm on a new bike (picked it up May 5th) and I'm in the middle of readjusting the right shoe cleat which is close but not quite. I am a spinner with a normal spin in the mid 90's.
