Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Going Single (speed)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I want to convert my Specalized P.3 to a single speed.
I'm not sure where to start. Anyone have a good guide or advise?
I'd like to know what a good ratio is - right not I have a 32 inthe front with a rock ring, that i'd like to keep.
This bike will be mostly ridden on dirt jumps and skateparks.
Thanks for helping a nubie!
Try Sheldon Brown's sight at Harris Cyclery. It is where I started on the fixed adventure.

So - it looks to my that I may be able to pull off my cassette and get a BMX free wheel, using spacers to get a good chain line.
Will I need a chain tensioner?
I am thinking about going with 32/15, how's that sound?

if you have horizontal dropouts, you won't need a tensioner. if they're vertical, you most likely will.
32/15 sounds pretty ok for dirt jumps and skate parks, afaik.
Have you ever considered a single speed BMX bike for dirt jumps and skateparks. They work way better than Mtn. Bikes. :)

the P3 is sort of like a BMX bike...
