Ive been interested my whole life but only recently has that interest grown to make me consider actually picking one up

Welcome and it sure is. Maybe even three or four things. ;) You can use the handy search function to review previous threads on just about any bike topic you can think of. Of course, don't hesitate to ask if you can't find something.

Hello space_cowboy--with your other interests, are you looking into mountain biking? There are ways of taking your equipment with you into the woods :D . Check out the Living Car Free forum for some ideas on how to lug that fishing gear and haul those guns.
