NYCC for moderately to highly competitive rides. 5BBC is fun but never fast, unless you do a Quick Spin that has a very small group. (And yes, I've done "Quick Spin" rides with 5BBC where a 60 mile ride took like 6 hours....)

Depends on your riding style. For 'moderately competitive' I'd join the NYCC club and check out some of their B & A rides. Also check out this board for informal groups.
