I want a 2nd set of wheels... advice?

Hey all,

I'm shopping around and pricing a 2nd set of wheels for my cross bike. Pit wheels in-season and shod with 25-28c road/touring tires for off-season use.

My bike came with Bontrager Select wheels and they worked really well for me-- stayed true through a season of cross and short-track MTB races and a couple of XC events.

I'd like to get another set of Bonty Selects so I won't have to think about size issues (width of rim, height of rim, etc). Just slot and go.

I've looked at Bonty Race wheels on-line but can't find any dimensional specs. They apparently run cartridge bearings vs. the loose cup and cone of the Selects. (If I got something like this, my Selects would be the pit wheels)

Anyway-- anyone out there have any advice? What I should look for, etc?

Bonty = Bontrager, similar to how people abbreviate Campagnolo to Campy.

Well, what's your budget? Why not handbuilt wheels so you can pick your hub/rim/spoke/lacing? :)

I have a set of the Bontragers that came with my Poprad, then bought a set of road wheels without thinking at all about size/dimension/etc. -- but only because I didn't even know to think about it. Got Ritchey OCR DS wheels new on ebay and have been pretty happy with them for road use. Brakes seem perfectly aligned. The best thing is switching wheels really quickly for different rides.

i really dont think youll have much of an issue swapping out wheels. i do it all the time with no problems. if you are racing and you want a second set....perhaps its time to get a set of tubbies and put your clinchers in the pit. i picked up a pair of beautiful NOS mavic heliums off ebay for $250. they are super light and everything you hear abour tubbies is true...they are amazing.
