General Cycling Discussion - Bike Computer for a Hybrid

Anyone have suggestions for a good computer for a hybrid. My rims have 16 spokes i believe?

The same computers as for any other bike, and the spoke count doesn't matter.

I have three computers -- an '00 Specialized Speed Zone Comp, an '01 Planet Bike Protege 9.0, and an '02 Cateye Tomo. They're all basic, wired comps, and I can't say I've had any problems with any of them. The Specialized is only on its second battery after 6000+ miles and frequent rain rides.

all computers are almost the same except for some added features on the more expensive ones..

I have a trek cyclo -- all basic (speed, dist, ave speed, time, odometer). I have this on the hybrid.

I also got the SigmaSport Targa -- also basic (speed, dist, ave speed, max speed, clock, odometer, timer, etc.). I like this one because it has a Titanium Casing and has a heavy duty wiring harness.. It is very durable.. And the titanium matches the color of the frame...

There are lots of cyclos out there... choose what features you need..

I have a cateye mity 3 for my road bike which recently went through the washer and still functions. I'm getting one for my wife's new hybrid. They can be had pretty cheap from most catalog houses so if you're planning on buying something from them soon might add that to your list.

I use the same computer, a Cateye HB-100, on my hybrid, as well as my roadie, and MTB. I bought a wiring harness for each bike. The only drawback is having to change the wheel size each time I switch bikes, but it's not really a bike deal. Most computers now have provision for at least two different wheel sizes anyway.

Cheapest wireless.

I just mounted a Protege 9.0 from Planet Bike on my bike today and like the clean look of this unit. No buttons and a big display. The instructions could not have been more clear. Excellant quality contruction too. I ordered another one for my wifes bike, which is a Trek 7200 hybrid.

The Mity 8 has a weird magnet, it has to attach to 2 spokes at a specific spot. If your wheels are 16 spoke you may want to make the magnet can work with your wheel. That is a slightly older model but i still see it on the stores.

However, if you really like the computer itself but the supplied magnet is a problem, you may be able to find an aftermarket magnet that will work such as the one from Mavic, Shimano or Sigma Sports which only require a single spoke.

Nashbar has these nifty colored Mity 3's on sale for $13 right now. They work fine, just remember to set the wheel rollout setting to your tire size. That goes for any computer.

CatEye Astrale for the Cadence function. One more sensor at the crank, and speed sensor is wired at the rear wheel, but other than that, not too hard to install. Around the same price as a Mity 3 so not a bad investment either, for the additional training function.
