View Full Version : I had..

A pretty nice birthday.

Got to dig at my new trails spot, ride at the skatepark for an hour and a half, and the college campus for half an hour. I started running two pegs in the front, which makes my bike way more stable, so I pulled my longest manual ever, which is still like nothing to a lot of street riders (about 200 feet). And I shot a few pictures too, after I got home. What more could a guy want? :p (The check for my first 4 photos that were published in the local paper would have been a nice touch, but I can wait..)

My hops are crappy with the two pegs BTW, too front heavy and rough until I get used to it. I'm having fun doing silly little flatland tricks with them, probably going to get 2 for the back also.

Nothing beats the simples days of just pedaling around.

Digging is fun too, at least i think so.

Let's see some pictures of that trails spot!

Has it hit you about your birthday yet?

It's just a trail, a crappy berm that the rain messed up, and a pretty big pile of dirt so far. Has what hit me?

That sounds like a pretty sweet day. I wish I had that many things to ride.

The fact that you're 18..and stuff. Like a 'grown up'.

I must be silly then because I'm not a very good flatlander (or a street or anything for that matter). ;)

But I've been working pretty hard at learning the rock-walk. I'm getting pretty close, I can do the first 180 on the front tire (with a brake, haha), and I can almost get the back end around completely on the second 180 on the back tire. Once I can do it regularly I will think I'm so cool.

By silly I mean like hang 1's (hang 5 without the back tire in the air, kind of dumb but meh), and trying footjam whips and surfers (I bet I could do it if I just stood straight up, but I don't want to eat **** and if you bend over it's way harder). And riding backwards sitting on the bars.

I'm still working on footjam whips

Aren't we all?

Yes. I can do them (footjam tailwhips), but not very consistently. Doing 5 out of 10 would be good for me.

And riding backwards sitting on the handlebars is fun. It doesn't take a lot of skill or anything, so you can basically do it whenever, wherever. It's one of those "lazy" tricks. :)

Technically, he didn't drop the name, he just dropped how he talked to the guy with the name.

Why? And how'd you get his screename?

I'm curious to know what it is, not to talk to him, just to know what it is...

CMcMahon
08-12-07, 09:15 PM
I didn't. I was trying to talk to my friend Marco (who's filming/editing the upcoming Fit video), and he happened to be the one on the PC at the time.

And it's only a namedrop if you're doing it to impress people. If it makes you feel any worse, I rode with Cameron Birdwell and Joey Cobbs today, as well. I shouldn't even say rode, actually, considering that I don't have cranks at the moment. I just drank Tecate and ate turkey burgers and parmesan-flavored Polish dogs. Best birthday party ever.

What happened to your old cranks and what are your new cranks going to be?

CMcMahon
08-12-07, 09:26 PM
I ground a hole in my right 41 Thermals months ago, kept riding them (even after the hole started to crack), and now the left arm is acting up, so I sent them in to Odyssey. Apparently, they discontinued those cranks and don't have any 175s left, so they're going to send me Wombolts.

Frankly, the only thing that would worry me more than getting Wombolts would be getting those new Fly cranks. I'm praying that I don't snap them just by looking at them wrong, much less installing them improperly.

FitRider 921
08-12-07, 09:28 PM
I really don't think they will treat you so badly. You only hear of so many disaster stories with them now because so many people buy the Fly's and Wombolts. I wouldn't mind running either of the two of them. If you really don't want the Wombolts so much, then sell them and buy yourself whatever you want.

CMcMahon

Considering I've personally seen a friend's pair of Fly cranks with the pedal boss completely separated from the arm, I wouldn't touch those things. Especially since I called out that that would happen before they were even on the market, simply because the weld doesn't go all the way around.

I'm going to give the Wombolts a try, but if I break them, I'll be warrantying them, selling them to some kid that probably couldn't break them if he tried, and either finding an old pair of XS cranks or some Powerbites.

I'll trade you my hollowbites that are 175mm for some Wombolts that are 175mm!

PM ME! :)

Your Hollowbites are really messed up and are used. Why do you think he would want to trade with you?

Plus if he broke Thermals imagine how badly he would snap the hollowbites.

How do you guys break them so easily?

CMcMahon
08-13-07, 12:56 PM
Note that I said "ground a hole", not "snapped". And that took nearly four years to accomplish.

That being said, I'd take regular Powerbites over Hollowbites, anyday. I've seen enough tweaked lightweight aluminum cranks to deal with the "extra" weight.

Not considering profiles beerman?

CMcMahon

I'm running a pair of borrowed RHD Profiles at the moment, actually. I had to hammer them on, bend out the spindle bosses with lockjaws so that the washers and bolts would fit, and my pedals are on backwards.

Mmmmmm sounds wonderful.

Currently the left side of my Hollowbites spindle is hella stripped so they are essentially homemade 2pc cranks. I hate these stupid things and i can't wait to get some nice Profiles or maybe Wombolts.

My friend alraldited his FSA smack daddy's when he lost the bolt. They were his homemade wombolts

One of the people i ride with lost the side compression bolts to his Profile cranks and just ended up welding one of the arms to the spindle. Crazy.

Yea but I can't do a lot. I can bunny hop, go down a 5 stair so far, I'm trying to learn to grind and manuel, and I can do some dirt stuff. Probably some other stuff I forgot to mention.

Fair enough. As long as you have fun, it's all good.
