The rider for Team Marlis won a race in the category for 55 to 59 year-olds, but CONI, the Italian Olympic committee, announced that the amateur racer was caught for using high blood pressure medicine, according to La Gazzetta dello sport. He is facing a suspension until he turns 57 as well as a revoking of his title."

I guess I shouldn't compete in that race since I'm on high blood pressure meds. Whew, now I have an excuse!

I thought blood pressure medicine slowed you down! It did for me when I was on it.

The rules are the rules. I know I'll never be able to compete (although I don't really want to), because of medications I take. We're each dealt a hand and must play it. Cheating is one way to play it, but then you've got to be prepared for getting caught. If it was against the rules to use the medication he was using, that is indeed a tough hand to be dealt. If he knew it was against the rules and raced anyway, he should be prepared for the consequences, regardless of age.

The WADA exception list is about 40 pages long, I gave a copy to my pharmacist. I have to get a Theraputic Use Exemption every year for my asthma meds. Like I'm going to be cured and use the puffers for an advantage... If I actually took enough hits (I don't even know if this is possible) to gain an advantage, I'd have the shakes so bad I wouldn't be able to do anything.

It's a gigantic pain, even OTC decongestants are a banned substance while you're in season but that's just what we have to do.

Anybody know what high blood pressure med he was using??

The BP med probably wasn't a performance-enhancing drug, it was probably on the list because it masked something else that was performance-enhancing. Just a guess.

I'm on BP meds myself. Now I can brag and say I'm so into cycling that I'm doping just like the professional cyclists!;)

You gotta be kidding. Thought the OP was a joke! BP meds are doping???? I have a feeling that there are an awful lot of us on this forum who are taking bp meds. Personally, I prefer my own doping method, a devilish mixture of metimucil, exlax, and Wild Turkey....apparently doesn't work, because there is almost never anyone behind me!
