Great Lakes - Performance Bike in Schaumburg

Don't get too excited if you got the same ad from Performance Bike I did yesterday. The ad says the store is now open and had just the item I wanted to buy, but they're still not open. Customer service says it will be open "soon", and the phone number will work when they're really open.

It seems kind of dopey to open a bike shop towards the end of the season. They should have opened it in April.

Just recieved an e-mail, 12:24pm, 8/17. The store in now open!

Alright! Time for a field trip to Scumburg!

On a whim, I took about an hour road trip to the store from Rockford. The place seemed smaller than what I was expecting. Pricing was good. I was not too impressed with the amount of clothing. Upon checking out I noticed a sign on the registers, credit cards only please. What? I didn't bother asking about it. All in all, a positive experience. I will visit again later in the fall.

As a side bonus on the way home, I passed a White Castle.

Given the crud weather again today, a family field trip to Performance might be a fun idea. Hey, I've got coupons and a need for arm warmers....yeah, that's it!

There are two registers. One said Credit Cards Only. The other was fine for cash.

Oh well. A nice excuse to take the family to Portillo's in the pouring rain on a do-nothing Sunday. Picked up some arm warmers for the impending cool weather.

I must have missed it. No biggie.

Nice shop. The displays and layout are more like the other newer Performance stores I have been in. Only 20 minutes from my door too. Beats the hour to the one in Naperville. I've switched over for sure.

Picked up some wheel bags. That's it.
