Fifty Plus (50+) - Are these tubes any good?

My front valve stem busted off. I need a new tube... might as well stock up a on a couple.
Are these worth it or more trouble than they're worth?

Can't honestly tell you but My LBS only sells me two makes of Tubes- Schwalbe and Michelin. They carry a lot more but they are for the Punters or the rich Guys.

And on cheap tubes- Many years ago- I did the London to Brighton ride as a member of a 24 bike group. As we unloaded from the truck- One of the bikes had a puncture. No problem- the owner had spare tubes- Fitted one and it would not pump up- Off with the tyre and another tube produced- Took air but immediately went down' Another tube produced and someone else checked the tyre- No problems- Another rider put air in the tube- off the wheel and it went down immediately.

"Where did you get these tubes and How many more have you got"

Emptying his Rucksack- "I've got 10 and I got them at the Boot Fair last week" It's OK though- I only gave him $25 for the box of 24 and the rest are at home."

We gave him a tube and we could start the ride----30 minutes late.

I've been using them for years. Last year I bought 50 for about $2.00 each and shared them with others in our club. I prefer short stem tubes for my (non-aero) rims, but the long stem ones have been okay. No valve problems.

I hear these horror stories about cheap tubes all the time, but I have never had problems with cheap tubes from Nashbar, Performance, Price Point, Walmart or wherever. Just lucky I guess.

I have used performance brand tubes for years. They seem to keep the air all in one place. The price is good. What's not to like.

You want your Lemond to perform, use Performance.

I have used them for several years and they work good for me. I have maybe two flats a year at about 4500 miles a year. Also use the nashbar house brand. If I had a lot of flats , belive me , I wolud not use them.:D

Bit heavier than I would really like but Not many Punctures.

Now if you are looking for a quality Tube- Think Latex. Never used them on the road bike but I bought 10 Heavy duty latex tubes for the Tandem. About the weight of a standard Butyl but the big advantage of them is when you get the in and out thorn punctures. They semi-seal and lose air a lot more slowly. Still goes down but several times we have noticed a Squishy tyre on the way home and pumped it up. Lasted till we got home and by the next morning- One flat tyre.

They seem to hold air 'til punctured with about the same loss rate due to osmosis as the others. What else is there? Weight I guess, but surely you are not going to become an OCP weight weenie are you?:D

Oh, goodness no! I put a Brooks on the sucker, remember? Weight is not an issue.

Believe me, I am no brand wh*re -or I'd have bought a Cannondale instead of a LeMond- but I just wondered if they used cheap rubber.. or whatever passes for rubber these days.

Well, from my limited experience, yes.

I use REI tubes on my road bike mostly, but I ordered a few extra tubes from Rivendell for the 650B tires on my Glorius, and they sent Schwalbe tubes.

I find that it's much easier to get the pump on and off the Schwalbe Presta valves, and I've only had one flat in about 1000 miles commuting on DC streets which are littered with broken glass, hunks of metal, potholes, etc. I had to get Mr. Tuffies put in my road bike tires because I was flatting all the time. No liners on the Glorius's tires, and fewer flats.
